I have been running around, trying to get the S-14 ready for sale, Helping Cam with his S-13, not getting much done on the Z. Here are a few update photo's.

My Tires are mounted on the new rims.

Rear

Watanabe 16X9.5 -19 offset, 4X114.3 lug.Tires are Mich Pilot Sport A/S plus 245/50ZR-16

Front are Watanabe 16X9 -13 offset, 4X114.3 lug.Tires are Mich Pilot Sport A/S plus 225/50ZR-16

I still am waiting for the 16mm spacers so the rims clear the S12W brake calipers (Toyota 4 runner). Now I can start on the rear suspension and ZG flares.

What do you think?

Not much more happening this weekend for the Z. Off to Nashville!

Cam got his S13 ready for the roadtrip.

see you there...if not

Apparently I missed something. Did he wreck the S14? What happened? Sorry to hear you're selling it . It was a great project thread for a great project car that was actually completed.

He slid into a car in traffic, rainy day, not paying attention, going about 20, and was hit in the rear at the same time. Front, not too bad, rear, not too good. Insurance wrote it off. He got the settlement and the car (salvage title). We thought about pulling the SR, but I decided to concentrate on the Z.

Sorry to hear that man. I know that's upsetting especially since you both put so much work into it. I know a lot of people were making a big deal about fast car + young kid, but this accident seemed like something that could've happened to anyone and really had nothing to do with that .

gmac,

Your build makes me happy. You are doing great work. Keep It Up!!!

You are going with some _serious_ hardware. I skimmed through and when I came to the RIPS oil pan, I was floored. Good Show, sir! Good Show!

I finished up a few welding holes in the floor that needed to be done. Always seems to be one left.

I also had to figure out "what to do" about the Tach gen hitting the transmission support bracket on the passenger side. Grind

During my first attempt at installing the engine/trany a few months ago, I had to remove the transmitter, due to it hitting the housing pretty hard.

I carefully marked the area that needed to be removed.

Couple of holes and connect the dots later...grind...everything should be OK.

Got my 16mm spacers for the front wheels.

Now the Watanabes clear the brake calipers.

Now...Let's see if everything clears when we install the engine.

Looks good down here the tach gen clears the mount. I will open it up a little bit more. It is still too close, but way better than last time.

Also had to add 3/8" shim to driver side engine mount so the oil pan cleared the steering rack. It was a little too close for comfort.

Drop it on the ground for the first time in a few months

Roll it outside for a photo shoot! Ya baby...

Still have a long way to go, but that was fun.

I gotta be honest, cutting out so much of that support bracket really makes me nervous. It looks like you're taking all the strength of that structure out...

Never would admit to painting a car. I do have somebody lined up, sort of. If anybody is interested, let me know.

Black or orange, just need to find the right orange. I keep changing my mind.

Me too. Im thinking about an external doubler welded around perimeter of opening. It is pretty thick metal, but it does flex when the tranny is moved around. I'll figure something out.

No. Turning wheel "in" causes outside corner to hit.I need to do rear camber plates, section and weld new spring perch on struts, install stub axles, brakes, rear wheels and "drop". Then I can cut and install ZG flares should have good clearance after that.

I got the Z turned around and started on the back end.

I removed the nut on top of shock and jacked up the car, this way I didn't need a spring compressor, everything just dropped down nice and easy...

Removed the brake lines and stuff. Left side is out!

Repeated on Right side..

Now I can work on the bench, a little easier.

I squirted everything with penetrant, These lower suspension pins can be a pain in the butt. I lucked out and everything came apart with only a little persuasion.

Remove lower pin.

I remove the old shock. Both sides had the big nuts on top, that capture the shock, cross-threaded in and not secured. I think somebody had replaced these at one time. YUCK! What a mess. At least the inside of the strut won't be rusty.

Now to get the brakes and stub axles out.

Remove nut with impact gun...

Remove brakes, remove stub axles...Everything came apart easily, no problems.

Got the other side done too

Now cutting old spring perch off

I will skip through the strut stuff ....

Measure how much needs to be removed, same as front struts needed.

Remove that

Weld together and attach the new spring perch.

I didn't have time to finish the other side, I was beat. It was hot today and having the welding stuff on sucked. I'll get it done tomorrow morning.

I got the other strut welded together this morning. I was having a bad "welding" day yesterday. But today, everything went much better. Sometimes it helps to just walk away. So...The second one is done and ready for paint.

The I started on getting the differential out.

OK..now the fuel tank.

40 years of dirt but it cleaned up easily.

I need to order some bushings and start putting the stub axles together. Also...These old parts are starting to pile up, time for a garage sale
