2008 EX35 Weird Electrical Issue

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Have had our 2008 EX35 about 4 yrs now, had 35K when we bought it used, it now has 95K. Anyway, something happened the other day and today that has never happened before. Manually turned on the headlights from the auto-on position because it was starting to rain hard, but not dark enough to turn on the headlights automatically. When I did, the ABS and Brake lights on the dash came on and the stereo started acting up and the volume control would not work. After a while the ABS/Brake lights did go off and the radio volume seemed to work as normal. Wife just said it did the same to her today, but working now. Also, for a few weeks, the rear electric hatch release sometimes does not work. Push the button and just dead. But then it seems to work with no problems. Not sure if this is related to the other issue. Any ideas?

Sounds like maybe a ground gremlin, but the ABS and perhaps BCM should have residual codes stored to give you a clue. If you find a mess of low battery and comm codes, which systems are throwing them will often point to the possible causes. Have a dealer or someone with a high-end scanner run a code sheet, post them and we'll help you sort it out.

PS - Since it was raining, check your alternator belt too. If it got slippy, the up-and-down voltage can sometimes cause weird behavior.

No codes came up at dealer. Said maybe since it was raining, there was a slight slippage like you suggested. Said the belts and alternator looked good. Has not happened since, so hopefully it was just fluke. All seems ok for now.
