I have a 2008 armada. I just bought it and the sales man told me I could have a factory dvd installed no problem. He said it was prewired and showed me the controles in the rear and the little thing for the remote. is this true or is it a lie? Please help.

Most cars are prewired to some degree. The resulting question is "what is missing".

You could possibly compare the wiring diagrams in the FSM to try and map things out.

Pre-wired? YES.....easy to add? HMMMMM, not sure, I would push the dealer a little more on that one, I would have the dealer install the factory DVD player since they apparently know how to do it! Good luck, let us know if it works!

If its prewired to the console and the overhead unit, then it should be pretty easy. Removing the ovverhead unit is pretty simple and only required a few screws (IIRC).

The armrest console only needs to be dismantled on the inside. Off the top of my head, the one in my Titan just needed removal of the door which is held on by 2 screws, the top of the bin which has 2 screw under the rubber pads for the door and 3 screws at the bottom (perhaps 4 in non-dvd equipped vehicles). While I've only taken mine a part a few times, I can't imagine it would be all that difficult to add the hardware assuming it is indeed hardwired and all parts purchased come with everything that is needed...

Watch out because some of the wiring harnesses could be different.

One option might be to go with an aftermarket screen. If you have the overhead storage, you can go with a myron and davis screen which is designed to fit in there and is color matched to your interior. Then just wire in an aftermarket DVD player. Frankly, I don't care much for the factory DVD player anyways. Which is why I replaced it.

As I stated earlier though, it should be easy to remove the appropriate pieces and you can physically check to see if it is prewired or not.

I recently bought a 2007 QX56 and negotiated with the dealer (Infiniti) to install a dvd as part of the sale. They were going to charge me $1500 and they indicated that their cost was a bit over $1000. I'd push hard in the negotiation. They put in a myron & davis unit. Works great although I wish the screen was a couple of inches bigger.
