Has anyone heard anything or have any inside scoop on when Nismo is planning to release it's 2007 line of products? I'm particularly interested in the '07 Spec-V Mods. Thanks.

i don't know i wish i could compare the two for you but this is my first sentra. when i was looking to buy i looked at the new lancer, the gti, the new 4 door civic si, and the spec-v. it was a toss up between the si and the spec-v, but i liked the low end power of the sentra over the civic and since i don't plan on racing any time soon i decided to go with it. i've heard a lot of mixed opinions on the looks of the spec-v and at first i agreed that it looks more like a family car than a sporty car, but over the past couple months it has grown on me and adding tint and new wheels has somehow completely changed its appearance. as far as the ride it is very nice, i love the interior and it really purrs in high rpms as compared to the whining of similar high revving cars like the civic. overall i'm very happy with it and can't wait to start with some performance mods. i also have a baby due in less than a month and it's very practical as a family car as well with the 4 doors, roomy back seat, and all the safety features. i guess it's all in what you are looking for. you definitely won't be dissapointed though.

I haven't had a chance to drive one, but I suspect the ride is practically the same as the stiffly-sprung Sentras of previous generations. It has practically the same suspension. However, given the added weight, it probably handles bumps more smoothly, but also gains a little more body roll.

Hey, I also have a 2007 Sentra spec v. I recently talked to the Nissan Parts guy and he told me they release a new catalog every quarter. He said that it should be out around December or so, so just keep checking with your dealer. I am interested in getting a cold air intake and possibly a new exhaust. If you hear anything different let me know. thanks

Ya the Spec V is roomy and rides very smooth. At first I wasn't too fond of the body style but as the other guy said, it tends to grow on you. I love my spec v and the handling is excellent. You feel like you are in control the whole time, especially when charging around hard turns.

if you've checked the nismo website recently(nissanusa.com/nismo), it has said "being tuned for more extreme performance" for about a month now. i was hoping maybe they would be releasing the '07 products for the new fiscal year starting in october but no one seems to have any idea what's going on, even the nismo people couldn't give me an answer when i emailed them so i figure it will be later rather than sooner. when the parts eventually come out i'm definitely doing the exhaust right away. i'd like to do the cai and headers also but nissan is touchy with the factory warranty if anything goes wrong in the engine and you've modded it so i might hold off for a little bit with those. keep me posted if you hear any updates about the nismo stuff.

ya they are really touchy about the warranty, I don't know why I mean they have their own racing company. I would think they would use that as a selling point, they could be like if you buy a nissan we will let you put nismo parts in and not void the warranty but whatever. From what I have been told the only think I can do without voiding the warranty are rims, exhaust, and just recently the cold air intake. But if you touch the engine in any other way it will void it. but again that is to my knowledge.

If you use NISMO parts and have the dealer install them you warranty will be fine.

Unfortunately, that is the most expensive way to do mods.

Some dealers are really cool about the whole thing, it's just a matter of hunting them out.

not for my dealer. From what I have been told any R-tune product will void the warranty. However the manager allows the cold air intake to be installed without voiding the warranty.

i heard the new catalog comes out every october, so it shouldn't be that long. My dealership said that if they install the parts, they warranty them and it won't void any other warranty.

The stock air intake is already sort of tuned from the factory with resonator and it does gets it's air from just behind the grill so sort of cold air i guess. The piping looks kind of smallish but you never know.

Maybe bigger piping would improve whp but I have to wait to see. I read some people claim to have like up to 12 more hp from just exhaust and intake mods but I find it hard to believe.

does that include the "r-tune" parts too like the intake and headers? i've been told that the s-tune exhaust is the only mod that won't void the warranty.

Yeah the B16 Spec V is way stiffer than the previous B15 chassis. I was really impressed when i test drove one. I have driven a B15 Spec V and the ride wasn't as solid and stiff.

It's not a B16. It's a C chassis.

the 2007 Sentra are a B16. If you do a Vin check you'll see. the chasis is a C-1 but thats just the chasis.

anyways.... back to the original question. where the hell is nismo? how are other companies coming out with exhausts already and nismo is no where to be found or heard from? you'd think since it is nissan's company that they would be the first to release products for their new vehicles...

They aren't the first because they're in no rush. I'm sure there's plenty of red tape they have to go through with the people on the factory side.

I just noticed gotak's post... and the stock intake will lose power at the resonator. That's why aftermarket intakes removed it. It's a manufacturer's way of muffling/controlling/tuning noise, not anything performance-related.

Back to the point: The NISMO stuff is probably going to be more expensive than it's worth again anyway, though. The NISMO B15 SE-R header was something like $550, a solid $200ish over the closest competitor, and without any difference in gains.

it runs $580 w/o the cat and $900 with it! i agree that is completely outrageous. what other companies would you recommend looking at? for now i'm just wanting to do exhaust and intake so i don't void my warranty this early. nismo cai for the B15 is only $300 which is right there with AEM and K&N, plus it has the built in MAF sensor and water bypass which are nice so i'm pretty sure i'm gonna go with nismo for the intake. with exhaust the nismo was $720 for the cat back, which is still high but i've heard a lot about the quality of their parts, even if the gains are comparable. i'm also interested to see what Stillen comes out with cause they have a catback available for the '07 2.0 sentras already. now this BRM exhaust is available for the spec v's so i'm looking at those too. i'm sure greddy will come out with something eventually also. what other options are recommended?

Most intakes run $250, sometimes $200, so a $300 NISMO unit would be a rip. My Injen was $250, and that's the same as the AEM. Albeit I don't have an SE-R, but the pricing was the same, at least at the time.

Here's the thing, the only benefit I'd see from NISMO parts is that they're all built well (pretty sure the header is stainless steel). Problem is that you can get an SS header from OBX for less than half the price and still get very close to the same gains. I've heard of the NISMO one rusting just as quickly as mild steel ones anyway.

Anyway, as for exhaust it depends more on the sound and price than really any gains. They're all going to have roughly the same piping size (2.25-2.5in) and any good one will have a straight-through muffler and resonator, so there should be practically no discrepancies in gains. The same can be said for intakes - btw, the MAF issue will probably be resolved on all aftermarket ones. Most offer a water bypass option too. IMO, the bypass is a rip. You have to literally sink the entire intake point (ie, the cone on the end) to suck up water. My car is lowered and I've gone through hurricane downpours without getting even close to that.

I'm not anti-NISMO. I like their parts. However, I don't think you should have to pay more just because Nissan is less likely to void your warranty.

i know what you're saying about sound being the biggest difference between exhausts. i posted on the media forum asking for soundclips of b15 sentras with nismo exhaust and stillen exhaust so i could hear the two without other mods, but no responses. i can't find any videos on youtube that give a good idea of either sound on a a sentra, just 350z clip after 350z clip. that and a couple good greddy evo2 clips. not a big fan of the offset muffler though.

i guess i'll just have to wait and see who comes out with what before i make any decisions. i agree that you shouldn't have to pay so much for nismo just so they don't void your warranty. i guess its a case of "charge what people are willing to pay."

Well NISMO does have some reasons for asking for more. First of all you know it'll fit perfectly. Where as some 3rd party aftermarket stuff can be dodgy.

Of course if it all fits and all else being the same you can argue the non-NISMO stuff are just as good. I'd wait till someone else try those first personally.

Also resonators are not always hindering performance. They are actually used to tune intakes for better performance. That beside said I have no ideas if the stock was was tuned for performance.

See this:http://www.dinamoto.it/DINAMOT....html

I'll see if I can dig up some clips. I know I've seen some.

gotak:3rd parties do their R&D too. Any decent company isn't going to send out a product that needs modification to fit. The first few examples of any exhaust may need minor tweaks, but after they've sold a few they get the manufacturing process down pat.

I call BS on that intake resonator info. Having a "reserve" of air isn't going to increase the amount that can be taken in. Piping diameter limits that to begin with and, even then, the throttle body's action will control that anyway. In the absence of other restrictions in the amount of air that could be taken in, having a point where "stable" air could collect might be helpful. If we take that into account then most CAI designs use a similar setup anyway - for instance, my intake takes from behind the driver's foglight. In there the bumper and other plastic covers actually shield the intake from debris and essentially create a less turbulent chamber around the cone. Even ignoring that, the piping actually is slightly smaller after the MAF, increasing the velocity of the air after the sensor and, therein, increasing the amount that can be taken in when the engine needs it. Furthermore, the biggest increase in power in an aftermarket intake isn't from the change in pipe design, it's from the change in filter. OEM paper filters are highly restrictive.

Anyway, outside of technical analysis, there's a reason aftermarket intakes make power over stock. They're less convoluted and are purposely built to pull in air more efficiently because parts makers can ignore Joe Blow consumer who doesn't want a noisy car. OEM intakes are designed for said Joe Blow, and companies use resonators to reduce noise so that that person doesn't complain about how loud their car is.

look what you did gotak, you made nametakenow pull out the "futhermores." haha just kidding. nice technical analysis nametake. in lamens terms the 2 main reasons an aftermarket cai improves hp is:

a) the filter is much less restrictive than oem filters which allows more air to travel through at higher rates of speed

and

b)cai redirects the intake collection point to areas with calmer air. less turbulent air around the intake collection (i.e. in the wheel well or behind the front foglights) has higher pressure and is more dense than quickly moving air (like behind the grille or under the hood), which in effect will create more of a "vacuum" effect into the actual intake also resulting in more airflow.

a short ram intake basically just does away with the stock airbox and filter, which is where most of the extra power in an aftermarket intake comes from. in all reality, the difference between gains in a sri and cai is very minimal to say the least.

either way, someone needs to start making $hit for my car!

I've seen short ram vs CAI comparisons go both ways (i.e. - little difference to significant ones).

Haven't found any clips of '07s. I saw a Youtube video of an '07 that claimed to have an aftermarket intake, but dunno if it's any different that stock cause I actually haven't driven/heard a stock one.

do you have the url for that video? it was probably a custom made intake if anything cause i haven't seen anything released for the spec v's. unless it was a 2.0 sentra, there's been some stuff starting to get released lately.

LOL longer words the better!

I am writing a paper right now but if I have some time I'll play around with some models in ANSYS and see what happens in an intake with or without resonators.

That one actually claims it's an Injen. Sounds like a CAI to me. Low quality clip though, .
