I recently purchased an '07 Sentra SL and i've currently put around 1,500 miles on it. When I first got the car I was doing mostly highway driving and getting roughly 29 mpg. Now I'm doing mostly city driving and getting 14 mpg, when the estimated fuel economy is 29/36. I took it to the dealer and they said the car must be driven for 6,000 miles for the computer to recognize my driving tendencies and adjust the fuel injectors. Could this be correct??! This seems ridiculous. Someone please help!

Makes no sense to me.

I'd check with another dealer... The ECU adjusts much quicker than that, and even if it didn't, it wouldn't matter what your "tendencies" are.

I got mines back in Dec. and i have more than 6,000 miles on it and it hasn't adjusted. Still reads 29 MPG and my average speed is 28.8 when i do like 60-65 to and from work everyday (Hwy) and 40 in residential and busy streets.

DeMeYeZ,

How long did it take for you to start getting 30 mpg? And do you drive mostly highway?

Just the other day. No clue as to why. I live in the country rural area of georgia and have to travel 30 miles each to and from work. No stop lights until i reach the city.

Just bought a 2007 Sentra SL with all the Options, and i too have yet to see this great MPG listed on the sticker. I'm around 28.5 MPG. We've just hit 1450 miles. Drove it to Portland, OR from Albany (about 70 miles) and averaged about 26. Could it be due to a new engine, and things are tighter right now, (bearings, piston rings, etc.) it's got the CVT which is amazing, but I thought i'd be getting better milage than this, hope it improves!

My engine's not past the break in and it get 23/27 (US/IMP) MPG mostly city driving. And that's the SE R with the 2.5 liter. Btw which one do they use in EPA figures? US gal or Imp gal?

I do notice the average speed part seems completely wrong. However, I haven't really looked at it much.

i have a 2007 spec-v and usually average around 20mpg based off the display. i know you will never get the mileage posted on the sticker, that is under perfect conditions. still, 8-10 mpg under what they advertise is very misleading if not flat out wrong.

I agree, the MPG on the sticker is very misleading! they should post the the mpg from a test car thats been driven on a daily basis for a set period of time and take the average, not the numbers from a car on the dyno!

I bought a 2.0S 6-speed in July and got about 28MPG at first. Now I get 31.5 with peaks of 32.5. Average MPH is still saying 30+. Have the same problem with the HIGH clutch release but I guess I am getting used to it.

I have a different problem though, Within 48 hours of buying the car I noticed a hot spot on the left side of the "gear box", about three inches below the hazard light switch, right where you might rest your knee.

I took it to the dealer and was told that there is nothing at that spot to heat up. The area seems to be getting hotter and I will have to take it back to the dealer.

Has anyone else seen this problem or have any idea what might be causing it? It does not happen all the time but more often than not.

I have about 2500 miles on mine and I get around 25-28 mostly city with some extensive A/C use. I was told give the car around 6,000 miles until th engine is TOTALLY broken in, that's what he PROBABLY meant.

I wonder if the person used the build in meter or did the math himself. I was looking at the meter then tried the math myself.... and the meter reading is worse then reality by a fair bit.

You guys are all thinking that these MPG and average speed calculators are exact tools of measurement. Well, they are not. The average speed tool is a time based tool. Think about all of the time you sit still at a light, youre not moving. The average speed is still calculating. The same thing happens with your MPG. If you sit in a parking lot with your car on and watch your MPG, it will go down. The calculation is just not accurate, so quit freaking out over it.

One more reason why I can't WAIT to ditch my stock head unit.
