Hey, everybody! Seems like the strengths of the 2007 G35 are well documented here and elsewehere. On the other hand, I have not seen too many complaints other than rear window noise. So, here are my $.02 since I'd be driving one for about a month courtesy of State Farm insurance since one of their insured decided to "modify" the appearance of my 2003 G35 sedan to the tune of almost $10,000 by rear-ending and pushing me into a friggin' Dodge Durango (the annoying part is that his MBZ SL500 suffered the least damage out of three vehicles). I am probably going to keep my 2003 for a couple more years and then will take a close look at the new G and IS350 among other things.

My biggest gripe is the beyond-ridiculous whistling wind noise with the driver's window just cracked open or rolled about half way down. It actually quiets down to a somewhat tolerable level when all the way down. This wind noise is SOOO bad, that it alone would be enough to tilt the scale in favor of Lexus.

The second big annoyance is that the sunvisor does not fold out far enough and is very likely to obstruct the driver's view. I think I actually ran a red light once - I did not even see the traffic light until I entered the intersection - and sure enough it was red when it presented itself from behind the visor (yeah, I really need another wreck right now!) The choices seem to be either lowering the seat or not using the visor and hope that the oddly shaped headliner blocks enough light.

Other less important issues are:-the crappy non-BOSE stereo,-no volume leveling when switching from CD to radio (my 2003 with BOSE has it)-the trunk that must be slammed WWF style to close,-two info displays (in the instrument cluster and the non-nav display) seem to be designed by two different people with two different sets of idiosyncrasies. -Why the hell the instant mpg meter goes up to 60 mpg in a 306 hp sports sedan and does so in 20 mpg increments while not displaying average fuel economy at the same time??? FYI, 90%+ of my driving is in stop-and-go bumper to bumper traffic. The always optimistic computer shows 13.1 mpg and 15.5 mph average.-Goodyear RS-A tires get easily overpowered at about 4000 rpm in the first gear

I hope that Infiniti looks into these things before I am ready to pull a trigger. Sorry for the lengthy first post...

Judging by your distate perhaps you should buy a Lexus.

I think we would all like to design our own cars but yet here we are in the land of reality.

Sounds like you've already made up your mind (at least to me)...I'd go with the Lexus.

BTW, I got to drive an '07 a couple of weeks ago when my coupe was in for some routine stuff, and I rather liked it...for what it is.(I don't think I'm old enough to drive a sedan of any kind! ) I didn't notice any of the stuff you are complaining of...then again, I drove it for one day. I guess I wasn't as critical of it because I knew I wouldn't have to drive it very long.

Couple of things about your experience. To be honest when I arrive to any intersection I have to make sure it is not red. I can't picture myself entering in any intersection without knowing I have the right to go. I think it is a weak excuse not to see the red because you did not see the other color either.I go to the intersection in my mind I have to stop unless if i see it is not red. If i can't see I slow down till I am sure I have the right to go. Because You have to make sure it is not red.I am not sure if the situation was the same but you were driving the Lexus you wouldn't do the same.

The wind noise I do have to agree with that it is a littlebit too loud. I still can leave with it.

With your mpg experience. You talking about 2 different things. The instant scale just shows you the actuall fuel consumption at the time with the other one it shows you the actuall mpg for the period from the last time you reset it. It could be 3 weeks ago or 2 months ago. You can reset it anytime. It is in the manuall I think.

I think over all you should go for the lexus. But I am not sure you won't find it disappointing. The G is after all is a sport car with luxurios features. The lexus is a luxus car for people like you. Who wants to get all the details perfect.(but believe me it is far from the perfect also) I like the G but I see these 2 cars differently. I like to sit in the car and feel the power of it from 0- to all the way I push it.Taking the corners like you never before. I tried the lexus before I bought the G I did not feel it. I bought the x because of the local weather( Canada) . I would love to drive the coupe it is more fun for sure.

I'd like to appologize if I was a little bit to rough. English is my fifth language. Sorry again for that.

Thanks for the input everybody. A few clarifications are in order though... I am very far from making up my mind and as I said, I am probably a couple years away from pulling a trigger on the new one. The whole point of my venting here is that I like the overall car a lot but would like it even better had these issues been addressed. Infiniti has been known to do it in the past after early j30's and original 2003 G35's came out and enough people complained. Let's hope they'll do it again.

@ zozoka: you misunderstood how my possible red light incident happened. I was driving in a heavy traffic on a major street at about 30+ mph and just followed the car in front of me into the intersection, because I simply did NOT see the traffic lights at all until it was too late. The visor had obstructed the view to the point that I had no idea the traffic lights were even there. Don't suppose that many people come to a full stop at every unfamiliar intersection and stick their neck out to make sure that there is no traffic light somewhere. If you look close at the design of the headliner and the visor, you'll see how curvature on the visor prevents it from folding away fully like it should. (Attention Infiniti: REALLY easy fix solution - make the left tip of the visor flexible!) That happened the first day I was driving the car and I had to lower the seat since although I personally like sitting high up to have a better view.

See the pix below how much the view is obstructed with the visor extended out (not just being down)

Now, the last minor thing. I understand the difference between instant and average fuel consumption indicators. What I said was that it would be nice to be able to see them at the same time (like on my 2003 or my wife's TSX). And there is absolutely no reason to have it go up to 60 mpg since this car will never get even remotely close to that. They should have maxed out at 30 mpg instead and use 10 mpg increments (not 20 which is hard to read accurately) so it's useful to a driver of a moving vehicle. Hey, just trying to provide some constructive criticism.

I know this is a lengthy post, but hear me out, and mask, I hope you think about my response.

I saw this while at work and on my way home, I decided to test your claim on the visors. Before I begin, I would like to start by saying, albeit quite upfront and frank yet in a sarcastic tone as I usually do, it is legal to move your head up and down while driving, not just side to side to check blind spots (if you do). The reason I say this, being of you’re average male height of 6’1” (maybe taller than average, but not relevant), I found that in order to see the traffic light ahead of me, I only needed to move my head down maybe an inch to be able to look up at the light while I was going through the intersection (I could honestly see it up until the painted stop bar). I even tried it sitting up higher, not much difference. And at my height with the seat down low, there’s maybe a half inch, inch of head room. So I can’t really see anyone getting higher than what I already am without feeling cramped. For the visor to go all the way to the glass is maybe another ¼ of an inch, not much room for improvement…try it yourself by pushing it to the glass.

The reason I go through the trouble and the lengthy post is this. With running the red light, if you can't see what's going on in front of you, that is driver error. There is no misunderstanding by zozoka. You should always give yourself enough space behind a car to see what's in front of you at all times, visor up or down. With the visor down (any visor, any car), you already know your view is obstructed as it is an opaque object, so drive accordingly. If you had hit anyone or were caught, there would be no consideration in whether your visor was down or not, you still failed to stop. The officer and court (whether fighting a ticket or for involuntary manslaughter; I realize manslaughter was highly improbable, but in another instance you never know) would say the same thing to your visor claim. Sure, the visor may be designed better to move the ¼ inch, but it should not be an excuse for your mistake.

If you're like me and don't like things obstructing your view, buy a pair of polarized sunglasses and they'll make you look even cooler to those whom you drive by and see your car. Personally I can't stand any visor.

Moral of the story: suck it up and take responsibility for your actions please, and use your head on the road.

Just out of curiosity, and if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

Well, thanks for the input again, but your post made me realize a few things:

1. You should really concentrate on your work while you're still at work. Yes, even if it's Saturday night. As it has been proven time and again, most people, especially men, are poor multi-taskers and the results tend be obviously poor.

2. Old IT term GIGO (garbage in, garbage out) is as true as ever. You obviously did not read carefully enough and/or did not absorb the words and the photos properly, therefore, one fallacy after another.

3. I am sure glad I did not disclose the jurisdiction of the ALLEGED -- re-read the details and maybe you'll see why it is alleged -- violation. I start getting a funny feeling that a self-righteous self-described as sarcastic (but not sardonic) Mid-Western vigilante in a hot red import would show up at my door with a bunch of local cops trying to charge me with a use of a sunvisor as described in the owner's manual. And, btw, to answer your question, I am in my mid-thirties (nope, not 21 anymore, if that's what you expected to hear).

4. In case you still feel inclined to conduct a somewhat scientific experiment, I suggest you fly to SoCal, bring your favorite polarized sunglasses, rent a 2007 G35 Sedan from any Enterprise (no shortage of either sun or G35's here). Then you can drive it around LA and lower your head a full one inch at every intersection until you memorize a location of every traffic light. The good news for you is that there is plenty of chiropractors here and I know a few good ones. Oh, and don't forget to pray that there is no one near you in a new G35 who has not figured out that their view might be obstructed!

OK, enough of that stuff... My apologies to people who came here to read about cars... Like I said, the reason I posted here in the first place was to voice a concern that there are a few things that require attention IMHO. The visor thing simply caught me off guard since I have never experienced anything like it and I have owned many different cars including two Infinitis, three Honda/Acura cars, a bunch of Mazdas, Ford Probe Turbo and a Caddy Sedan de Ville. I also used to sell cars briefly when I was in college and got to drive just about anything ranging from junkers to exotics.

My solution for now was to lower the seat and not use the visor unless absolutely necessary (yes, I do wear polarized sunglasses, which also makes reading the small instrument cluster display very hard in daylight). Should I end up buying a new G35 sedan and the visor shape is still the same, I am sure I can find a way to re-shape it myself so it folds away like it really should, just can't mess with the rental.

Sorry for the long post... Really hope that some people may find it useful and important enough for Infiniti to look into it. And if it helps prevent a single accident, then mission accomplished

Fifth language, huh? I always had a lot of respect for polyglots and interest in other languages. English is actually my third... Zozoka sounds Hungarian to me - is that where you are from? I'll be going to Budapest this summer for the first time, pretty excited about that!

yes,

Zozoka is a hungarian name (nick name of Zoltan, but I am kind of mix of europian blood . My father is german my mother is Slovak/Hungarian. They were talking to me in there on languages from my birth. So that is how I learned those 2. Than we moved to Hungary when I was 6. Started the school without knowing the Hungarian. I learned that, that is my 3rd. Than I had to pick a language in school and carry onfor 8 years1-2 hours a day from grade 4. That was the Russian. So 4th and I came here in Canada in 2001 and started to learned the English. Sorry about my story I know most people not interested in that. After all this is a car post. Zozoka

Before I begin again, I would like to apologize ahead of time so as that you don't get mad at me again, for reasons towards the end of the post.

I'd like to focus on the last part of my quote for two reasons since I allegedly didn't read the details. First, since you've provided proof that it was red, it becomes an outright violation, not an alleged violation. Secondly...

I guess I don't understand how you come to an i-sect with a visor down and say the light didn't present itself from behind the visor until you were in the i-sect. It should disappear when you enter an i-sect. As for reading the details again, technically for it to present itself from behind the visor in the manner that you described, you would have to be going through the i-sect in reverse (take a sec and think about it). I read your post and see someone not taking responsibility for their mistake by blaming it on a visor. You were the one driving and missed the light, you're the one at fault, not your visor. That is how I understand your post, so if you could further clarify so that I'm not confused as well. I'm not charging you with using your visor in any way, but it sounds like you were sitting to high if you had that view and you've fixed it. Great, now it won't happen again.

Sorry if I'm misinterpreting you, kind of hard to do over the internet. Also sorry, the topic of driver responsibility becomes personal to me as I've had many friends get seriously hurt/die in auto accidents (mostly due to stupid mistakes) which drove me to test your claim since I wanted to see how bad it really was and I presented on what I found. I think you need to reread about what I found about moving the head - only when I came to the stop bar, which by that point you should already know if you have the right of way, which has been my experience in every car. I honestly wouldn't have entered this thread if you left out the story of blaming your visor for running a red light. I am done with this thread.

Have fun in Budapest!

P.S. try an Arrogant Bastard ale, brewed in Escondido, just north of San Diego...if you like dark beers, you'll like it. Not sure if you can find it outside the SD area, but that's the only place I've seen it. And as for my work, being Easter weekend business was slow and I ended up having a little free time after getting everything else done before closing up.

After driving an 07 sedan for a few days, I concur with the sun visor thing. It was a bit too low for comfortable driving (I ended up putting it back up and dealing with the sun).

I didn't notice the wind noise...the stupid pollen is crazy now, so no open windows.

What I did notice is that they changed the door ergonomics...it's no longer comfortable to rest my elbow on the top, and the middle arm rest is about 1" shorter...

The throttle is WAY to firm!!! No reason for a wire system to have the pedal that firm...

The trunk does take a little more umph to close than it should.

The display system seems like a waste of money if you don't have NAV.

...All minor gripes, but together can sway buyers to other options.

Joe,

I had the same feeling with the center console at the first day, but I realized it is short when it is not in gear. When it is in gear it is comfy to rest my arm on it. I can switch gears comfortable with the tiptronic. But that just me maybe you have shorter arm. I have the auto transy. I am not sure how much the different on the distance between the console and the stick on the manual stick.

Actually, I was referring to the door armrest. I didn't notice much of a difference in the center console position (from my 05 coupe). Also, I didn't even notice the door problem until I let my wife drive it-I was on the passenger side.

I was hoping for the paddle shifter...but I guess that's on a specific model.

Joe,

I tried the paddle shifter it is fun but I don't think there is much different in between the tiptronic and the paddle shifter. It is just the race car feeling maybe. I guess it is good for people driving both hands on the wheel and switch gears like that. I prefer left hand on the wheel and right on the center console and the stick ready to shift. But that is me again. That is why I never realized the door armrest issue. But I went out to try it. You right, it is kind of funny when i tried to put my arm on. I also tried to move the seat up and down back and for. I've found couple of spots where really good but mostly not too comfy.

OK, I hate to be beating the dead horse yet again, but I feel I'll give it one last shot trying to explain what happened and why I feel so strongly that Infiniti has to address it pronto.

Take a close look at the lower photo and you'll see that the visor is NOT down (not in vertical position), but rather fully folded out where the left edge hits the headliner thus not letting it fold in fully. I would guess that it could probably travel at least an inch otherwise and would not obstruct the view nearly as much, making it a lot safer for anyone in or near a 2007 G35. You just cannot conduct a valid test in your '06 coupe b/c that design is very different. I see that you (like myself) are doing this out of good intentions. So, if you or anyone else reading this is concerned enough about the safety, I suggest you go to a nearest Infiniti dealer, get behind the wheel and see it for yourself. Should your driving position have anything in common with mine (fairly high up and not too reclined), you'll see exactly what I am talking about. Feel free to call Infiniti Consumer Affairs at 800.662.6200 and tell them what you think about it. I did! The rep was very friendly and took it extremely seriously. He went to ask me a bunch of questions how I felt about the car otherwise and said that he would pass on the comments to the product team. I also mentioned the wind noise and stiff throttle which did not surprise him at all...

Now, the last part as far as my ALLEGED vioation. I do not know whether the light was red or yellow when I ENTERED the I/S. This would be the determining factor here in CA. Since I followed the car right in front of me into the I/S at about 30-35 mph, there is a good chance the light was still yellow. It was a large I/S and I only saw the traffic lights on the side (to the right of the visor) when I traveled well into the I/S. That's exactly why it really freaked me out. After all these years in the US, especially being headquartered in CA until recently, Nissan should be able to see that this sunvisor issue can be spelled L-A-W-S-U-I-T. Finally, moving to a more pleasant stuff... I am not an ale drinker but that name sure got my attn! I did a quick google search, found their website and checked their local re-sellers, which turned out to be very numerous. And, drumroll, please, I think I found a perfect place right in my own neighborhoodhttp://losangeles.citysearch.c....html

This is just classic, only in SoCal - go to The Village Idiot to get some Arrogant Bastard!

Now that I have lost brain cells that I cannot get back from reading this thread I am shocked that this thread has gone this far.

It is a friggin visor!! If you don't know how to look around it then perhaps you shouldn't be driving at all. And who cares about the red light, I have ran a few myself as no one is perfect. I personally don't have the time to set around and analyze it ??

Enough already THE HORSE IS DEAD! Let it be dead!

P.S. I am not trying to be an A-whole here but damn lets end this post here. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

Good eye, Will! Motorola RAZR v3i, I am kinda into cell phones too. I got the first v3i's almost a year before Cingular did. You think Moto owes me a few coins for the plug?

Not to cause any more irreparable damage to our buddy in TX, but the pix are a telltale of how much light the visor blocks. See how the camera overcompensated with the visor folded away. But hey, it's only safety shmafety we are talking about, who cares about another head injury?
