Hi everyone!

I found this forum and it feels like the right place to seek some help!

So I have a 2005 Quest, and for the last week or so, I've been noticing that when I come to a full stop(waiting at a light) there seems to be some kind of jerking-type movement happening. I have my foot down on the break completely, but the car itself keeps jerking forward, as if it wants to take off on its own. It feels like someone would be bumping me from behind, which is something I've never experienced before in this vehicle.

I was wondering if anyone else has had any similar incidents having to do with this? Oh, and to add, it doesn't happen all the time. From what I noticed it's very inconsistent when it occurs, but when it does, you definitely notice it.

Thanks!

I took the van to a mechanic and the codes that came out were P1800 and P0301.

But I'm confused with the P1800 code. The description was a VIAS control solenoid valve circuit open. The mechanic said it needed to be replaced, so I went to the local Nissan dealership to see if they had the part, but the guy helping me out said which side I needed. I wasn't sure, so does anyone know in fact if there is a specific side to this? I've been looking online and through Amazon and I'm not seeing anything that would say if there's a driver side and passenger side solenoid valve that needs to be replaced...All I'm getting is that there's one. Was the Nissan guy just confused about it?

The other code seems to be with the spark plugs.

There's only one VAIS solenoid on VQ35DE. He is probably thinking variable timing solenoid, which there are two on the front and back bank of the passenger side. So the boy has no idea what he's doing. Talk to someone who does know what P/N 14955-8J10A is.

Cyl 1 misfire could be 1) faulty coil or plug 2) oil leaking into the plug well 3) anything else Nissan bestowed on us. Swap a coil from another cyl and see if the code follows. Then it's a coil. IIRC to access it you'll need to pull the intake, which sucks.

Most likely the solenoid for this actuator is bad and can't fire, but it could be a wiring or connector issue for it as well. Chewed or burnt wire for instance. You may wanna trust your mechanic on this, especially if he's been down this road before.

Hey everyone,

So after finding time to do the job, I did it. I changed the spark plugs and even moved the coil from Cylinder 1 to another one, to see if the issue would change.

After finishing the job yesterday, I took the car for a drive just to see if the rough idling is gone, but after a bit of driving, it came back. It didn't seem as bad as it was before, but its still obvious. The times you can really feel it are when you're stopped. Besides that, the car runs great.

So I'm wondering, since I changed the spark plugs, could it actually be the coil that's the issue? the check engine light came on again, blinking and then on completely.

Did the code follow the coil?

So I finally took it to Auto Zone so they could scan it.

And sure enough, the code followed. I now get a P0306 cylinder 6 misfire. Which is where I moved the Cylinder 1 coil to see if it followed.

Then you are golden! Getting a new coil should have you all set.
