Do you need to reuse the metal brackets that were attached to the Bose stereo? Unfortunately, I don't have the Bose radio or brackets any longer. I installed a single din, and the single din dash kit mounted nicely. But the double din dash kits that I see, seem to rely on the original brackets to mount the stereo. Maybe I'm wrong. This is all I see: https://www.carid.com/2003-nissan-pathf ... 94679.html

Has anyone mounted a double din in a 2001-2003 Pathfinder?

I haven't, but I'd like to. I've done some searching and it appears thus far Crutchfield is the only company that has a unit that would fit our trucks. I don't like their limited selection; screens retract when not in use, which is a single din, I think. However they sell a kit for steering wheel controls. I have yet to visit a stereo install shop to see what is out there, but if someone has already installed a unit in their truck and could share that would be great.

Yes you need the original brackets to mount a double-din receiver.

Should be able to source the brackets at a junkyard.

Any double-din receiver will fit

I installed a double-DIN Pioneer in my '02 and had to use the original brackets for mounting it. The Metra bezel you linked to is the same one I used but it is only a trim piece to make the install look right. My '02 had a Clarion system that used mounting bracket Nissan part numbers 280384W400 and 280394W400. The later Pathfinders with the Bose systems used mounting bracket Nissan part numbers 280701W300 and 280713W700. Not sure but it might make a difference with respect to where these brackets fasten to the sheet metal behind the dashboard. The Bose brackets appear to be discontinued but the Clarion brackets are still available at:

I'm going to end up making my own mounting brackets I guess. Will be a little bit of trial and error, I'm sure.

PS, I also will be installing a Pioneer (AVH-501EX)

You may also need a couple of add on items to make your Pioneer work well with the rest of the audio system and the steering wheel controls. For my Pioneer AVH-170DVD I also wired up:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C ... UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004H ... UTF8&psc=1
However, the steering wheel control interface and the system interface to integrate the factory Bose amplifier would be different for your '03 and that specific Pioneer AVH-501EX. Crutchfield.com flagged the following items for your installation when I plugged in the AVH-501EX and the your '03 Pathfinder SE. I hope this helps if you haven't already thought about it.

I also noticed that Crutchfield has installation brackets and that Metra bezel that should work for you.

I'm no longer using any original wiring (other than power). I replaced all speakers and speaker wiring. Also, my SW controls were a little flaky when the original Bose was in there, so I'm not going to install SW controls.

As far as that Metra dash kit, it's just a trim ring to fill in gap. It won't actually mount the stereo from what I've been reading.

It's the other installation brackets, you no longer have and that Crutchfield carries, I thought you might be interested in. For about $15 it beats fabricating something else to mount your new system.

Oh, I didn't see the installation brackets. The link you posted was to all dash kits (762 of them).
What is the model #??

Oops! The link must use cookies my PC saved when I looked it up. The Crutchfield part is Item #: 003NDK717. The website indicates it fits your '03 but I just realized it also indicates it is for single DIN heads. Sorry about that.

Yep, that's the kit I have now. Currently have a single din Alpine in there. I don't understand why the single din kits have the mounting brackets, and the double din kits don't.

Oh well.

OP, can you share the color coding of the wires you needed to connect, please? (positive 12v, negative 12v, remote trigger 5v)

I am doing an install of a double din. I went with a dual amp solution. One 4 channel amp for the doors and the tweeters. The other is a Monoblock for the subs in a box at the back of my Pathy.
The door speakers are Rockford Fosgate Primes (6.5in) the subs are 12inch Pioneer Champion Series. I am still using the OEM tweeters but, plan to replace soon.

I ended up fabricating (2) mounting brackets. Was a little trial and error, but got it done. It's a shame you can't buy them anywhere.

I'm currently running into this same situation. I need those longer brackets. I have seen them on a couple eBay listings included with factory original Bose system, if I want to pay $80. They will enable the dual din radio to mount correctly, but will leave a gap between the radio and the bezel. Curious what you did as far as making custom brackets?

From all my searches it appears that Nissan parts # 280713W700 and 280713W300 are the mounting brackets for the Bose amplifier that mounts in the rear wheelwell at the rear of the driver's side of the Pathfinder, not the brackets that are used in the dash to hold the radio in.
