A few months ago i bought 2002 Infiniti I-35.
About one month ago i noticed I the gas peddle and my acceleration are all messed up.
Then my brake light and battery light came on randomly oneday while I was driving. A couple days after that I was driving home and the car died. The serpentine belt for the alternator, radiator, etc was shredded. I've gone to every local mechanic store to buy a replacement but all the normal belts they say should fit are way too big, 43.5". The smallest I could find that fit is a 42.5 and when i put it on the car it doesn't touch the tension pulley at all, not even with it as high up as it can go. When I jumped the car off after installing the belt it crunk up fine, but the second I touched the brake, the gas, try shifting gears, etc the battery started losing power, losing rpms, and then jumping up really high rapidly. All the gauges were going crazy.
My questions are, did driving with the messed up serpentine belt mess up my alternator or something else?
Or, is the fact that my pension pulley isn't spinning causing all the other pulleys to malfunction?
Also, how can I find a serpentine belt that fits? I've been to O'Reilly's, Autozone, Advanced Auto, etc and can't find one. i think it's because my car was made in Japan and they wouldn't of used imperial measurement.

I can't find the part on that site. And I don't know much about serpentine belts but the one's I've bought were made in the USA or Mexico; so i thought maybe they don't make it in the same size as the Japanese. I can only find 41 1/2" length or 39 1/2" length. It really need a 40 1/2".

Call them as not all parts are listed on site. Joe and his staff are knowledgeable about Infiniti/Nissan parts and you get 25% off MSRP.

You say that the tensioner won't touch the belt with it as high up as it will go. The tensioner is meant to push down on the top of the belt.

I was wondering if that could be the case. You're saying it goes against the grooves under the tensioner?

The tensioner pushes down on the top of the flat side of the belt.
Do a search for the service manual on this site. I'm pretty sure it's available. A picture is worth a thousand words, as the saying goes.
