Hello all,
I have a 2002 I 35 that I recently replaced the radiator on because it had a crack. A day later the check engine light came on, so I pulled the code and it is a P1217 code, Overheat code. I have checked all the lines and have not found any leaks, the cap seems to fit very snug, there is plenty of fluid in the radiator, and it seems both fans come on and work fine. The car does not overheat, and the temp seems to sit right where it did previously. I have to go get emissions done and they wont pass me with that code because they dont know what it means. Any ideas? thermostat? rad cap?

It could be due to Coolant Temp Sensor. Check the harness/connectors. Refer to the link below, starting on page EC-524. On page EC-535, there is a procedure for testing the sensor resistance.
