Ok...so my mom picked up a 2001 Sentra to cut her fuel consumption. It was a really good deal. Problem is we can't pass smog because of the above DTC. I've gone through the steps in the FSM and can't locate a problem. I've replaced the sensor even though it seemed to check out according to the FMS. Each terminal has the proper reading (Power, ground and continuity to the ECU pin). Opened the valve cover and the area the sensor picks up is clean. If anyone has any ideas on this, please share. The engine runs fine and passes the sniffer part of the test just fine. Any help is appreciated...

I can't tell you 100%, those sentras are bad about ECMs going bad. They had a recall where some foam insulation is removed from the ECM case. The insulation was soaking up moisture shorting the unit. Typically the code that is set when this happens is an Ho2s1(b1) heater circuit. If everything checks out I would look into this. Warranty is 8 years 80,000 miles. Perhaps you should call a dealer and have them run your VIN for open campaigns. Also, If I remember correctly, there is a fuse in your engine compartment fuse box located at the driverside front that if blown will cause that code. There will not be power to the sensor though. Hope this helps.

It seems I left out that its the 1.8L.

The car is way out of warranty. BTW, anyone have the ECU pinout diagram showing all the connections for the CA and Federal model? Looking at the car a bit further, there is a possibility that someone may have swapped a federal motor with ECU and harness or perhaps just the ECU if enough similarities are there. The car is listed as a CA model according to the emissions label, but the pin# for the intake valve timing position sensor matches the federal model...wierd.
