I am about due for new tires on my wife's Pathfinder, and I was wondering what are the best ON ROAD tires for the stock 16" wheels?

I want something that is quiet, and has good traction in rain and snow.....

I am under the impression that most quiet tires do not have long tread life, and this is a trade off I am willing to make. There seems to be to much road/tire noise in the Pathfinder for my liking. I drive a 2003 Maxima, and whenever I am in the Pathfinder with her, it seems awfully noisy....

your thoughts?

I've actually found quite the opposite. The stickier the louder.

Your concern with the loud tires and short life makes me think of other problems besides tire quality. Bad struts and/or unbalanced tires. Both of which can over time "feather" a tire which will greatly increase road noise and wear.

For tire selection I'm copying this thread to the suspension section so Neal from the tirerack can take a look. Enjoy the Pathfinder :D

It depends on what kinda of driving you do to choose a better tire. Stickier tires like my hp duelers by Brigestone do not give up any noise and they are alot stickier than stock. Michilen tires are probably the best tires for quietness. I would upgrade to michilens, you will get a quiet better ride. They are costly tho.

It must be different with truck tires. When I went from my V-Rated Goodyear RS-A's on my Sentra to Z rated Dunlop SP5000's, the SP5000's were ALOT 'stickier' and ALOT quieter than the Goodyears.

Same with my 1998 Maxima, I got rid of whatever was on there, put on Dunlop SP5000's, handling was improved, and the tires made much less noise.

I can't wait until i need new tires on my 2k3 Maxima, I will be getting Dunlop SP5000's again. But I just can't figure out what to get on the Pathfinder.

my post says the 'kind' of driving I'll be doing is ON road, and maybe a little snow and rain.

also, I am looking for a bargain, Michillen's are overpriced IMO.

I have had good luck with Dunlops on my sedan's.

Does Dunlop make a good ON ROAD truck tire that is quiet and has decent responsiveness to driver input?

thanks

I had a pair of cheap dunlops on my pathfinder and they were very good. They are louder than stock tires. Dunlop average truck tires suck far as road noise. You have to get there high model, which I think are on mercedes ml500s and bmws. Since you did say snow tires, I guess the Bridgestone HPs are out of question. I love my tires but you have to sacrifice since you are looking for a good on road and snow tire. Like I said, Michilens are probably top choice. I would do some internet searches for tires. Tire rack and a couple of other places may have a set of 4 for a good price. Since you have 16s and not 17s they should cost too much.
