My I30 will not shift out of park when stepping on the brake pedal. I have been bypassing the interlock with a screwdriver. I just realized that the brake lights are not working either. I have checked the fuses - they are good.

There are two switches activated by the brake pedal. I was able to get one out to check it. It is closed when the brake pedal is NOT stepped on.

The other switch I cannot get out - no room to work behind the steering column I did notice that when I activate this switch I sometimes hear a click. Is there a relay in the brake light circuit? If so, where is it located? Can someone provide a link to an electrical schematic of the brake light/transmission interlock wiring?

Thanks

Welcome to NICO.

Page AT-272 of the factory service manual has a diagnostic procedure for your issue, please try to follow it.

Thank you! Looks like it was an intermittent stop switch after all. Part is on order.

Is the entire service manual available on-line? I would like to have access for future reference.
