Ok, recently my 2000 xterra has not been starting at random times. I will put the key in the ignition and turn the key but the engine won't even turn over. All the dash lights and radio come on so it's not the battery. I get stranded at gas stations and random places and after an hour or so of trying to start it, it starts rights up as if nothing was wrong. I thought maybe it is my starter cable going bad but that doesn't really make sense either. Any suggestions would be appreciated so I won't get stranded anymore.

Does your key have a little blue or gray square piece of plastic on it? Sometimes those 'turn of the century' Nissans would lose the key transmitter code thus killing the vehicle from starting. Nissan techs would have to reprogram all the keys by re-registering them with the Nissan Auto Theft Security or NATS system computer. There should be an FSM for your truck at this link
