i own a 2000 maxima se and it seems veeeerrrryyyyy slow. the ses light is on due to the need of new oxygen sensors. i also have ngk iridium spark plugs waiting to be installed. if i replace the oxygen sensors and install the new spark plugs, will i get some power back. thx guys. btw im runnin a 2000 se wit 18" deep dish rims, full magnaflow catback, injen intake. motor has bout 110k. also ive been reading about the 2k rpm ping. has anyone found the solution??

When the O2 sensor goes bad, it goes into a default mode and tells that side of the engine to run rich as a safety precaution. Installing a new O2 and plugs should help.

maxhopper97 hit the nail on the head. replace that little sucker, and get your mileage and performance back!! O, and try a fuel system cleaner...i would recommend the 44K BG cleaner. Your local Nissan Dealer should sell it :-)

Not trying to hijack the thread but quick q...

Any chance O2's could be bad without throwing a code? I have 150k on the car, no SES and I feel like they might be causing my sluggish when warm syndrome.

You might try pulling the codes to check for the knock sensor code, since it doesn't turn on the CEL. Also, are you using premium grade fuel?

O god...what now SES=Service Engine Soon??? I've made myself look like an idiot again...damn.

No I have no codes, knock sensor is bypassed so I can only use 91. but I'm just asking if an 02 sensor can go bad or be on its way out with no codes? I mean I just hit 150k today and I've never replaced the o2's

Hey, did you ever figure this out with O2 sensors? I am having a sluggishness problem as well.. New MAF but no ECU update yet.. But weird thing is, I read about sluggish O2's and went out and disconnected both my pre cat O2's that tell the ECU what A/F mixture to run, and the car runs a LOT stronger! Dont know if the O2's are the problem? or something else in the "closed loop" mode is causing this sluggishness, and simply disconnecting the O2's makes it run in "open Loop' mode.. Help is greatly appreciated!

Do you have any trouble code? If the O2 sensors are original, then one or more may be due for replacement. Again, a trouble code will help. Usually, the front O2 sensors have greater effect in metering air-fuel ratio.
