I have a 2000 Maxima and what to know how to program the new key bought a new one much cheaper than dealer offered. any help thanks.

You'll still have to take it to the dealer to have it programmed. As it's a security feature, it isn't something just anyone can do.

...Or you can take it to a local locksmith if they program keys that are not purchased from them. Some locksmith don't do that unless the keys are purchased from them. Most of the times it is still less expensive to get your duplicate keys from locksmiths than from dealerships. Even some Home Depot and Walmart stores have transponder keys that they can cut and program at a decent price. I got mine a local locksmith for $50 about a year ago and that's the one I've been using.

I purchased transponder keys from an online vendor for about $16 ea. then found a dealer that would cut and program any amount of keys for a flat fee of $54. This was a lot better than a locksmith I called that said he'd do it for $75.
