Here's my story.....I own a 2000 Infiniti I30. I love her very much. She has a little over 115K miles on her.The dealership keeps telling me that my knock sensor is bad. I've been going there for the past 3 1/2 years and every time, they tell me my knock sensor is bad and that I need to replace it. I've never took them up on thier expensive request because I can't afford that kind of money for a sensor that doesn't really affect the performance of the car except for a little difference in gas mileage. My check egine light never goes out and they say it's because of the bad knock sensor.
I've done my research in the Nico archives and it seems that the knock sensor won't trip the engine light. - Is this still true for my 2000 I30 model? - And does my car only one knock sensor? My FSM only mentions one.
I've already ordered a new sensor on eBay for $110.- Should I go ahead and get the wire harness as well?- Is there a manual that will show me step by step what I need to do in order to replace the sensor myself?**I've never worked on a car before, but I am a top rated aircraft mechanic on F18 military fighter jets. So I'm pretty confident that I could do the job myself if I had the directions.
Can someone please help me out here. I don't want to have to pay a whole pay check to get this job done. And from what I've learned from Nico, I'll have a whole lot of other consumable parts to replace while I've got under my hood somewhat taken apart. The dealership will charge me an arm and a leg to replace all those other parts.
