Small update on the S14: Mostly just got some parts in, lol. I did remove the steering wheel from the S13 and installed it with a quick release hub setup. Also bolted in the new seat with off the shelf stuff, but I already knew it wouldn't be in the right spot, so I plan on having new mounts made to sit lower and tie in the roll cage when it gets done soon. I also started to pull the interior apart in preparation for the cage. Still have more to do there though, lol. Anyways, that's about it for now.

Some parts that came in: Rear diff cover, new water pump, and the quick release setup
Image

and a PTP turbo blanket and wrap.

New seat bolted in, but needs to move down, lol.

Well, back to the S13, she is officially fully retired. Last night I pulled the SR out for the final time. The chassis will be sold to my kid brother to do as he pleases, so all of my 240 enthusiasm will be fully on the S14 from here on out. The S13 served me well over the years, but it's time to move on. This car has actually been the longest single car I've ever owned (2007-2016), which is saying something to those that know my car buying/selling habits! This exact engine has been with me for even longer as it powered my first 240 as well (2005), and it has approximately 210k miles on it (built around 200k). This is assuming the engine had 60k on it when I got it, ha ha. Who knows really.

Anyways, this how I parked her the last time she moved under the SR's power:

Last engine bay shot just because... it's dirty!

Engine coming out!

Engine on the ground ready for the stand:

Engine is in it's new temporary home while it gets a full inspection and refresh where needed. It will also get insanely cleaned up (for those that know my level of OCD, ha ha):

Well, just before Christmas, I towed the S13 away and handed it off to my brother. That's a wrap on that chassis! From here on out, everything is solely on the S14 and the SR that's making its way in it.

Snapped a couple pics the morning I towed it to California:

I should finally have some more frequent updates starting now! Engine is taken down to the point where I can clean most of it.

The rear pipe insert for the block breather doesn't seat well anymore, so it leaks all over the rear of the block. I'm actually going to design and get made an Aluminum fitting with o-rings here that will have threads so I can put an AN hose on it. This will allow me to run nice AN lines from the block to my PCV setup as well as prevent leaks. Should be pretty trick.
Image

Here you can see the oil leak from the head gasket on the front cover. I plan on taking the head off to install a fresh head gasket and upgrade to mazworx head studs over the old style "off the shelf" ARP studs. Haven't had any issues, but since I'll be putting more power down now, I would like the little extra insurance.
Image

I actually got ahead of myself and cleaned a little on the intake side before I remembered to take pictures, ha ha. I purchased a new oil block to replace the old one, since it's pretty beat up.
Image

After it's all cleaned up, I will finish removing the rest of the parts needed to remove the cylinder head and start the process of putting everything back together. All the brackets for accessories and engine mounts are at powder coat at the moment, as well as the S13.4 hybrid valve cover (which is why my original S13 VC is on the engine atm to keep bugs and debris out). I've been thinking of painting the block with high temp silver paint (ceramic if I can), but haven't decided yet. I want this thing to look amazing in the S14!

I also took this opportunity to check valve shim clearances and ordered the needed shims/guides to get everything back in check. The #4 exhaust side had the most change and had .21mm of gap! I try to put everything around .15mm give or take .1mm. I'll be checking the rocker arms and other parts for wear and replace if needed. If too many rocker arms need to be replaced, I may replace the whole set and do the dual guide conversion. But we shall see. Since I don't bounce my engine off the rev limiter like a noob drifter, I've never had any issues with throwing a rocker arm (and I've spun this engine to 9k, lol).

That's it for now, I plan on doing more work today, mainly on the chassis side of things. I need to prep the car to go and get a cage done. It's a lot of work!

In what configuration? I weighed it a number of years ago, but I honestly don't remember in what config or what the weight was, ha ha. It may be in this thread somewhere, as I know I posted it at one point! :rotfl

Yesterday I got to the point of stripping out most of the parts in the interior. I worked on the doors today and tomorrow I'll be working on getting all the sound deadening out!

Image

I also picked up the new turbo setup! Super pumped on this; I can't wait to see how the car performs now! The cost to upgrade wasn't too bad after selling the old Full-Race twin scroll kit I've had since 2008!

Full-Race EFR Turbo Kit (Not pictured is the turbo speed sensor and hardware of course):
Image

Ceramic coated manifold this go around to try to help keep rust at bay as well as temps inside the exhaust! I'll also be wrapping it as well as the ceramic coated downpipe. Wondering if I should send this out along with my Greddy intake manifold to get extrude honed...?
Image

Borg Warner EFR 7163! Should spool faster and net a little more power than before.
Image

Close up of the BOV recirc port. I also have a Full-Race aluminum BOV cover to replace the plastic one (it gets brittle apparently). You can also see the speed sensor port which will be utilized.
Image

I also had the turbine housing ceramic coated, and I'll be throwing on a turbo blanket.
Image

Now I just need to finish getting the motor all cleaned up!

Playing with dry ice is fun!
Image

Stripped all the sound deadening out, and ready for cage install!
Image

Only bolted in what was needed to drive the car down to the shop as well as what will be trimmed for the cage (aka the dash). Then dropped it off yesterday! Should get the car back in a couple weeks. For now, I'll go back to working on the engine :D

Some more crappy cell phone pics of the cagework, lol.

Initial seat mount, tested, was slightly too far back, so it will be adjusted. Gave me another inch of headroom which is nice! So now my helmet is 1-1/4 inches from the roof, ha ha.

Image

Main hoop is tacked in, nowhere near my head, so that's a win!

Image

These are the front the pedestals to allow the a-pillar bars to attatch to the "floor" further up closer to the firewall. Helps prevent leg injury in the event of a heavy side impact. Also makes the front a little more hella-flush, lol.

Made a little progress on the engine today.

Pulled out the cams and checked all the components for abnormal wear and such. Everything looks pretty decent, nothing out of the ordinary.

Image

Image

I was a little worried about pulling the head because it has a ton of abuse on the engine since I did the build 6 or so years ago! But this is the view I had right after I pulled it off, I was surprised that other than being dirty it's in fantastic shape!

Image

The head looks good too!

Image

I'll clean everything up, remove the upper oil pan, oil cover, and rear main seal housing, replace what's needed, and then start putting everything back together with the new head gasket, seals, and upgraded head bolts!

Got the upper oil pan off to inspect the crank scraper, everything looks good here as well. I know it's a chunk of change, but I've been thinking of going dry sump. I can't quite decide if I should at this point, or if I should just get an accusump setup to add to my existing oiling configuration. I just know cornering G's are going to go up as well as engine stresses, which will be quite hard on the engine. I'd like to not nuke an engine, ha ha (I know it's going to happen eventually, but I'm trying to keep it running for as long as possible!).

But it drains the bank account! Ha ha. I've been thinking of adding an accusump for now, so I can focus funds elsewhere in my projects.

Cage is all welded up! Gussets are going in now, followed by some sheet metal in the rear to seal the trunk from the cabin. B-Pillar gussets are done, but A-Pillar's were being cut when I stopped by the shop today. Hoping to get the car home end of next week!

Well it's been awhile for an update.

Got the stock motor pulled and sold off to fund the project.
Image

Also pulled apart the Z32 trans to ship off the bell housing to get machined for the adapter plate. Checked the gears and synchros, everything looks great. Should have the bell housing and driveshaft by next week some time.
Image

Also broke down the stock R200 diff for the rebuild. Ordered new bearings and seals. Deburred the 4.35 gears and going to send them out for cryo once I find a place that will actually communicate! Can't wait to get this bad boy back together with the OSG 1.5 way!
Image

I ordered a rep Navan bumper and JDM zenki headlights to spruce up the front end. Not sure if I'm convinced the bumper was a good idea. I think I should have gotten the oem version. I bought this one because it didn't have the plate provision. I'll fit it later on and make my decision then on whether or not I'm going to keep it. Got JDM headlights rather than EDM because plastic housings are preferred on track, lol.
Image

Image

This morning I started to pull everything out from the engine bay. Prepping the engine bay as well as the "cockpit" for drop off at the painters. I can't wait to get it back! Still going to look like crap on the outside though, ha ha!
Image

Should have more updates soon. It's bloody hot out, so I only get to work on the car in the mornings!

While wrapping up the engine bay stripping, I found that the wiper linkage studs spun in the plastic housing so I couldn't get the nuts off to remove the linkage. Enter a dremel and cut-off wheel...
Image

Finished stripping the interior (at least as far as it's going).
Image
Image

I also had to pull the subframe so I could remove the factory fuel tank and fuel hard lines. Ordering a new OEM tank and going to install larger diameter hard lines better suited to E85 consumption, lol. Going to run a fuel surge tank in conjunction with the factory tank. Should be a decent fuel setup for my needs.
Image

Engine bay in all of it's gross glory (picture taken before hard lines were removed).
Image

Installed my old Z32 TT wheels to roll the car outside so I could wash the engine bay.
Image

Engine bay is now all degreased. Still need to take a red scotchbrite to the surface to help prep it for paint. Same with the interior. I drop the car off at paint on Friday!

I thought they did away with E85 here in AZ? Are you planning on getting it by the barrel?

Yeah, I'll run it by the barrel. I'll be running a flex fuel sensor also, so I can run whichever I want. Ha ha

Hahaha a man with a plan. I don't know where in Phoenix you are, but fwiw there's a shell station off higley and McKellips in mesa that sells VP fuels in the store. They're also open 24 hours if you're ever in a pinch.

First some before spray shots

Then the first stage in paint. They will paint the rest of the cage and interior next. I'm only painting the interior/cage and the engine bay. I love the color! The outside of the car will stay red.

Which track are you planning on going to? Wild horse? I want to do a bagdad run in my 14. Feel like going for a cruise sometime...preferably when its not triple digits?
