Got a new cat back exhaust for the S14. Didn't like the Megan Racing cat back it had, lol (selling it now). It's an Apexi N1 Evo 3" to resonator and 3.25" (like it really matters, lol) to the muffler. It's all shiny and stuff...

Glad to hear your switching trans's! With my gt3071r the original trans didn't last very long. I just switched to the vg over the summer and so far so good. Car is going down again this winter for the pte6262 upgrade here pretty soon (I hope). You ever think about polishing up that quench chamber?

It's getting polished, lol. The shop flow tested it, weren't happy with the results, so they are going to do some more work to it, lol.

Picked up a low miles (so they say, lol) JDM Z32 Twin Turbo 5 Spd Trans today for a decent price. It's for the SR when I swap it in the S14, so it wont be touched at least until later this coming summer, but I had the money from taxes to grab it, lol.

Upgrading to the Kouki tails isn't a ricey mod at all IMHO. Newer and classier compared to the bubbley Zenki ones. :bigthumb:

Car looks great. The tails and exhaust definitely help to fix up the rear on the car - I'm sure in both looks and sound quality now. Keep posting pics!

I will be, but slowly  lol. Things will really start happening by the end of summer when I start the chassis swap from the S13 and it's built SR to this car

I've definitely had those slow going projects. Sometimes it can be hard to keep focus or motivation - but when you do, it's SOO worth it. Good luck on the project and we definitely look forward to updates!

I just hope everything works out this time, I'm tired of not having my project car running. My S13 has been down since October '09 for the most part!

Thanks! Yeah, this car is definitely in need of paint as well, lol. It'll happen eventually...

Lol - we aren't nationally known, but aim to change that as we've done work on a national level. If you visit our gallery on the webpage, the set of silver wheel faces that have before and afters on them were refinished for NICO member eds13. Let us know if you have any questions, but whether you come to us or not we're excited to see the progress :)

Well, I got some numbers back from Port Flow Design (shop that is working on my cylinder head). I should hopefully get my cylinder back from them soon!

Here's the cylinder head after the port work and such. I had them also install the +1mm Ferrea valves and supertech bronze valve guides.

Image

Image

They also bench tested my cylinder head. I honestly forgot to have them flow test it as stock, so I'm pretty bummed about not having stock numbers to compare it to, but I do have numbers (from them) from when they tested a stock SR20VE cylinder head. I know the SR20VE head is much better than the standard highport DET head (especially after some work), but I just couldn't afford to make the swap. However, I'm fairly happy with the results I got back from the DET head. Looks like the exhaust side flows a tad better than a stock VE head now, but still lacking a little up top for the intake side. I'm OK with that though. I know other people have gotten different numbers for both heads, but I figured since these were both tested by the same company on the same equipment, that it would be a reasonable comparison. Here's a little chart I put together comparing the two:

Well, it's "basically" done! Ha ha

I haven't fired it up yet. I still need to put oil in it, and hook up the battery. Going to crank it a bit to build oil pressure, then connect the injectors and CAS and fire it up. Warm it up for awhile, then rip the VC back off and check the shims. After that, I'll order new shims if I have to (may not, I have a lot already, lol). I'll put them in, and then I'm ready to rock! If I'm lucky, I can drive it next weekend!

Well started it up. Built good oil pressure right away. Ran real rough (and lean) and it turns out, the fuel lines on the tank are old and cracked, lol. Gas all over the floor (a lot). So now I need to clean it up, and install new fuel lines, ha ha. Damn! Not a horrible thing though I guess. No coolant or oil leaks at all, so that's always a plus. Warmed it up to about 170°F holding it at 2000rpm, then let it idle, and it wasn't very happy. After I get the fuel lines put in and double check shims, then I'll start it up again. Maybe tomorrow...

So, I fixed the fuel issue, lol, but after checking the shims, I need to order 6 new shims to get everything gapped correctly. Placed the order tonight, and got priority mail, so I'm hoping I get them by this weekend. So no updates until the weekend, lol.

I got the motor started up and even took it on a test drive (see video below). The solid lifters are still pretty noisy, but not as bad as they used to be. If anyone else has personal experience with solid lifters, please let me know if mine sound about right or if they are extremely more noisy. This is the only SR that I've been around that has them, so I honestly don't know. They still sound a little too loud IMO....

I'll take a listen tonight. I know we have a few people on the boards that have solid lifters. Did you shave down the rocker arms per Tomei's instructions?

I found out my issue. I was sent the wrong cams back in 2009. I ordered solid lifter cams, and I received Hydro lifter cams. Ordered the correct set last week, installed them yesterday. going to finish tonight and get it running again.

The same cams I had, except for the solid lifters. I still want to try to retain some level of mid-range power if I can. Ha ha. I may eventually go to a 270 exhaust cam and give that a shot.
