for all the american muscle lovers i thought i'd make a thread fro the build of my brothers camaro. its a 91 RS (5 spd with a v6) and the engine is being pulled out for a 73 350 to go in. the engine has been in the process of being built for a while but now its actually starting to get swapped into the car.

heres the car bone stock and unmolested

heres the 350 going into it.

the engine was one of my dad's (hes got a few v8s and spare parts laying around) but he gave it to my brother. one of the cylinder walls was pretty messed up so the engine was cleaned up and bored 30 over. oversized summit racing piston and piston rings were used. the heads are the old ones off of my dad's 72 chevelles, they're mid 60s vette heads with some work done and good for a lot of power. my dad ditched em to get dart heads . the valve covers are also my dad's theyre moroso valve covers and they were in terrible shape. a few hours with an Emory cloth cleaned then up nicely. the intake manifold is an edelbrock rpm performer (iirc) and the carb i cant remember off the top of my head, but im pretty sure its a 600cc(and i know its an edelbrock). the cam is a comp cam and i cant remember the spec on it to save my life but i will say this, the cam, heads, intake manifold and carbs are all designed fro a low to mid power range. pretty much hes gonna be making some real good power from idle to 4.5k rpms. the headers on it in the pics are black jack shorty headers but he didnt liek the design so new ones are coming soon. the car is also have a vac gauge installed along with water temp and oil pressure. the factory transmission is being reused with a new bellhousing and a hays racing clutch the. factory flywheel is being used and just got resurfaced. the fuel filter is an edelbrock and steel braided lines are used off the carb for fuel. i know there a lot im forgetting and i will try to get more specs if i remember. the camaro is in the garage currently and the engine was ripped out in about a day and a half. the car has also had the engine bay pressure washed along with the transmission. most of the wiring has been gone through and weeded out and the ac is being removed. i dont have any pics of this but heres some of his parts stockpile

ps- oops forgot to mention he got a posi rear end to replace the factory open dif. he also has a new fender and front bumper as well as a glasstek fiberglass hood with 4 inch cowl. hope u enjoyed the pics, i'll try to take more today

i know, the only chance i would have is a really long race where he'll top out. were going to a local 1/4 mile strip this spring and i'll have video

haha, the funny thing is hooker heads were considered but with the fitiment issues my dad had with em on his 350, hes leaning towards something else

I just know I've run a number of different headers on SBC's and Hookers are the best quality for general off the shelf headers by far.

Nice build. I don't really like Camaro's but looks like that one will really scoot. I like the high HP, still streetable cars. This looks like great project.

^ lol unfortunately my brother can drive. when he got his license he had an sw20 and kept that for a few years until buying the camaro.before the sw20 he had an s13 coupe when he was 14. we've had a go cart since we were real little and we've also ridden dirt bike for years. hers my brother on the dirtbike

we both are pretty good drivers so it'll just be down to the vehicles. a funny little stroy is a few years ago in my brothers junior year of high school. he was part of the school band only because they were taking a trip to virginia beach, after the trip was over he didnt really care. while in VA beach there were a lot of activities offered for the students such as dinner out on a boat and other things. one activity was everybody racing go carts on a track. if uve ever driven an mr2 u know it feels similar to a go cart, so he can in 1st on every course

rofl...an SB 350 into anything on the planet isn't original.

I do love 3rd gens even if they are huge pieces of crap concerning build quality.

I want an LS swapped IROC-Z because the 350TPI sucked.

I'm not even got mention the 305

yeah the 305 does suck and is not worth mentioning at all and yes i know the 350 swap isnt original, i never said it was the one thing that really sucks is the massive box against the firewall the top half is a/c crap but the bottom is the ducting to the heater core so it cant be ditched. the cardboard shows what the plans are for blocking it off. then an aluminum tank will be made for the washer fluid (to replace the ridiculously huge ugly one) and mount on top of the blocked off duct chamber. heres some shots of the engine bay as the wiring is being weeded out. the car is also getting new brake pads, shocks and springs, enjoy

that a nice project you got going there, we have a kid in my auto tech class with a 350 swapped into his iroc-z (with cam and headers) and that thing can move.

hahah not sure what u mean by that but the dart heads were for my dad's 350. im not gonna lie, he's got enough money to do what he wants pretty much, he just doesnt spend it often ( or throw any my way). my dad's 350 should be roughly +350whp (maybe, i really have no idea with the new heads) and my brothers should be at like 330whp

me and my brother do yes, mostly cuz our cars are black, the struts were a blue that really stood out and he wanted to tone it down

Neat project and a good way to spend the winter. If I can nit-pick just a little, 1st gen ran from 67-69. Good luck and thanks for the pics.

alright i've been slacking on updates but here ya gothe engine bay has been cleaned up and paintedthere was an issue with finding a starter to work properly and things got a little messy trying to use a 73 block and a 91 transmission. it all got sorted out and the hayes clutch and the flywheel on. the bellhousing is for a 91 v8 equipped camaro and trimmed to better clear the starter. the transmission's output shaft also had to be cut about half an inch short. i dont have any pics with the bellhousing on but heres the clutch and flywheel onteh engine and transmission were bolted together outside the car, then both were dropped inhe installed the new alternator and spliced it into the factory alternator wiring and ran it through the fender. it took a little work but he got the distributor wiring spliced into the factory harness as well. the factory junction box was ditched for a cleaner set uppretty much most of the wiring is done. hes using the stock e fan with a controller and over ride switch with factory v6 rad. if thats not enough he'll upgrade this summer. the heater hoses were also hooked up and while they woudl have looked better run under the alt bracket, we tried it and it kinked the hose, so this'll do. my brother got creative with the high pressure power steering line. to go to the 1st gen 350 ps pump he needed a line for that year car, but that wouldnt work for going to the body line. so he took the stock ps line and bought one for the older style ps pump and cut them in half and had a hydraulic shop connect them.he headers are on and the spark plugs are in. the engine was set to tdc and timed and the dizzy set correctly. the spark plug wires are the build-yourself kind so he was working on them, as you can see they're a paini think i covered pretty much everything. gauges still need hooked up and then its exhaust, new hood/bumper/fender and posi rear endtheres a new muffler for it which i'll get pics of later. hope u enjoyed and sorry for the long read. i'll try to be more regular with updates

both of my 3rd gen firebirds (one v6 one 305) both had horrible quality, weak engines, but I still loved them.
