1998 Nissan Maxima idling issues

I just purchased a used 1998 Nissan Maxima from my father inlaw. It only has 75,000 miles on it and is in very good condition. So far the only problem is when cold starting it won't idle without having your foot on the gas pedal and revving for about 10 seconds. Then it idles just fine. Also starts and idles fine when the engine is warmed up. Is this something I could fix myself or am I off to the repair shop? Thanks for any input.

Make sure the EGR valve is not sticking. Chiltons has good info on how to check
or you can look at the shop manual
