The knock sensor on the VQ30 engine is located directly under the intake. It is mounted to the top of the block right in the center using one 12mm bolt. It is round and black with one connector. It is a bear to get at with the intake on. It can be done, though. Your engine was built in Smyrna, TN and then shipped to Avon Lake, Ohio for assembly at the Ford plant up there. The Mercury Villager and Nissan Quest were built on the same line.

The manual shows that the manifold must be removed in order to access the knock sensor. The knock sensor error codes does not throw the Engine check light so I rather live with the code. I replaced one in 2001 and it failed again after few years, but I don't bother to replace it again. I will when I have to replace the rear valve gasket cover in the future.
