Post

so i have a 1997 nissan pick-up with some front end issues

when parked and idling, the front driver side lifts about 6 inches up and down when steering side to side

when driving if i turn to the passenger side it pulls, but only at a certain spot, and i can let go of the wheel and it will continue to steer me threw the corner without correcting itself.

i took it to shcwabs and they said it was my driver side CV axel because the boot was torn off and im sure it was a lil dry

but wouldnt it be pulling to the left, instead of right, being on the drivers side?

and it only does it occaisonally then stops without any indifference....

this is a really odd problem and i was hoping if anyone has ever run into a problem like this on any vehicle.

One of the origional reviews for the HB was that the CV boots are vulnerable to being torn by sticks and what-not while driving off road. If the boot is ripped off of yours, and its rusty and dry, than you definitely need a new axle. If the boots lasted, the axles would probably last the life of the truck. I check my CV boots, and I check them often. If (when) they weather and tear, I will pump the joint full of grease and install those one boots that just go on over the old ripped one. I also had an idea a while ago about making some kind of protection by the boots, but haven't tried to yet. Sorry to hear about your deceased CV axle.

Yeah, get that boot serviced soon, or just score a replacement halfshaft and core yours out. They can be found for under $100 nowadays.

As for the truck lifting some, that's normal due to castor settings, but not returning to center isnt'. I'd get some jackstands under the lower control arms and steer side to side to see if anything is binding. It may be time for new balljoints.
