Earlier this year, my alternator failed on the freeway. Somehow this failure managed to blow most of the fuses in the car. I have replaced all fuses and installed a new alternator and battery. A mechanic checked the amps and things seem to be operating normally.

I 3 lingering problems.

1) The windshield wipers won't stop even when the control stalk is in the off position. I have replaced the wiiper motor with another from a salvage yard. Both keep the wipers on except when the car is off.

2) The HVAC system no longer directs air to the chosen vents. In other words, regardless if you hit defrost or the floor vent HVAC buttons, air keeps comes only out the dash board vents. I can get a new HVAC dash controller, but I'm not sure this is the answer. Would like to try a simpler solution first if one exists.

3) Tachometer spun all the way around and is not stuck at 12K RPM. It does not function. Do I have to get a new tach, or is there something else to replace. I do not want to start taking apart the dash . . .

Any ideas how to fix these problem?

Thank you.

Ryan

The wipers maybe from a faulty stalk. The hvac controls can be replaced, but they are electrical as well. Seems this surge you had may have screwed these things up. When did the tach go off the map?

Thanks Red,

The tack twirlled all the way around when the alternator failed. I was driving down the freeway, and all hell broke loose. Wipers tried to chuck the wiper blades, horn went off, lights came on, AC came on, tack twirled around, and then silence . . . I thought the car had died, but it kept going. Drove fine, just everything electrical didn't work. I limped it back home and thought the car was junk. A fried electrical system is not worth fixing on a '95 G20. Even if it does have just 80k on it.

But I took a chance and got the alternator/battery replaced and then I started replacing fuses and everything started working again--except for the three issues listed above.

It's been completely trouble free before this incident 6mo ago.

Thanks!
