Hi guys! New member here..

Ok, my mom has been ranting about the audio system since she bought it a year ago. Thats the only problem with her car - the audio system doesnt work.

The audio system doesn't even turn on! Its a BOSE system with a CD player, btw.

My mom's b'day is coming up fast and I'd like to suprise her by fixing her audio system. That's the one thing thats keeping her from loving that wonderful car (it rides smooth, a/c is wonderful, etc).

Two questions :1). What do I do to fix the audio system2). Is there a way to test if the speakers are working right, regardless of the head unit

Now, even if the tape+speakers are working fine, she'd be perfectly happy with that car, so I'm relying on the kind folks here to steer me in the right direction.

Welcome to Nico!!!

Is your vehicle a 1992 M30? or a 1993 J30?

J30's weren't sold till 1993.

Sorry, its a 1993 J30. The audio system is the stock BOSE system.

Your '93 was probably made in 1992.

These guys reapired my Bose unit a few years ago and it's still working great. Removing/re-installing the radio yourself isn't too difficult, just don't force anything.

I had one rear speaker fail and disconnected it for a while, as it caused a very LOUD buzzing.

Nissan improved the later year rear speaker individual amplifier circuit boards and I've been able to find them at local pick 'n' pulls for $5 each.

Well, you can do what was suggested earlier; those BOSE stereos can pack quite a punch. Or if it's beyond repair, just replace the head unit & the speakers. I recommend JVC, Kenwood, or Pioneer for the head unit, then Pioneer, Infinity (the stereo manufacturer, not the car manufacturer), or Kenwood for the speakers.

Thanks guys!Problem here - The service center is in san jose and i live in austin and my mom's b'day is coming up in a few days.

Any DIU kits/local repairs in austin?? Atleast if i know that the speakers are working, I can search some stuff in google and get the head unit. But i dont know how to test the speakers alone.

Ok, i searched in the local and apparently circuit city in austin has a car-audio repair service.

My mom says that the speakers are working because she has taken the head unit apart and somehow found out that the speakers are working (she's an engineer afterall ).

So, if only the head unit needs replacement, is it possible to do an aftermarket head unit replacement and expect for it to work with the BOSE audio speakers?

The Bose speakers each have their own amp. And are 2 ohm speakers.one of these will let you keep the bose speakers and use a aftermarket head unit.
