Sometimes when I drive, shift into neutral, and come to a stop the idle is high (about 1,300-1,800 RPM). Any ideas on why this is happening?

Does it idle high whenever the car is in nuetral or does it do it with the clutch depressed?

The car will not idle high if I start it up and leave it in neutral or press the clutch in. The high idle only happens when I drive the car around and then come to a stop in neutral.

I think it's linked to the weird sound that seems to be comming from the head when the car is idle. The engine is the stock KA24DE.

Here is a clip of the engine sound at 800 RPM (idle). There is a weird metallic sound and it goes away if I rev but returns when the car is back to idle.

That clip requires a codec I don't have. Any way you could just host it to Photobucket or something of the like?

And from what you're describing, it sounds like your car has a rod knock. If that's the case, time for a new motor.

Photobucket doesn't upload mp3 files. Do you have windows media player? It should be able to play in there. It's just a sound clip, no video.

I'm not too sure if it's rod knock or not. Never had a car that made the sound the 240SX is making. It sounds more like a metallic rolling sound than an acutal knocking sound.

Edit:Sounds a LOT like thishttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v...lated

From the comments it seems like its a timing chain problem.Anyone else have input?

It sounds like the upper chain guides are loose/missing. I would check those out before condemning the entire motor to a rod knock.

Yea me too also, a friend of mine told me that we most adjust the idle on throttle body.

I haven't done it yet but i will look into it, most of us after doing the 5 speed swap in general had a high idle so if you lowered it from the throttle body i would like to say its in correct and the correct way to do it is from the back of the engine on the left side behind the fuel filter there is a screw that you must turn to adjust it. I might take a shot at fixing it tommorw, if any of you guys get it done and it turns out good let me know

Check the coolant temp. sensor. Mine wasnt clipped down and it did the same exact thing. It will think the car is cold, like when you first start it in the morning when its not. As far as the sound im not sure.
