1991 coupe weird dash lights

I have a 91 coupe with digital speedometer that I got tired of messing with so I installed an aftermarket digital speedometer. I just cut the speedometer harness behind my cluster and now my dash lights are acting ridiculous. In the off position the two closest to the right come on. In the running lights position they go off, and in the headlights position they stay off but the headlights still come on. The only wires I cut from my stock harness were the two from the vss and the power and ground. Should I reconnect the stock speedometer unit or something?

I spliced the ground, not disconnecting it. I tried reconnect the stock speedometer and regrounding. I'm considering just splicing the dash lights into the acc power and just have them on all the time. it'd be better than nothing.
