Anybody have a write up on an alternator replacement for the early gen q45? It's dead.

not sure what you are looking for? R&R?
It's a PITA, but doable.
imho, easiest if you remove the right tension rod & mount plate, reposition the AC compressor. remove battery. There is a blind nut on reinstall, might use some tape or rtv to hold it while you thread the bolt.
Curious what you plan to do with it? Take to a local rebuilder so you keep your (presumably) nissan core?

Definitely loosen the bolts on the AC compressor. It's the about the only way possible to get in there to do everything unless you have really small hands. Also pull the battery and maybe upper radiator hose. Thankfully it's been a while since I've done it. I remember thinking the instructions in the FSM were actually helpful the last time I did this job vs. how I had muddled through it the other times.

Spent 12 hours stripping the parts car today. Let me tell you. Even with the fan, ac compressor, and radiator out it was still b**** to get the alternator out. Literally pulled everything i could think of from this car. All 4 window motors. All fuel related things. Speakers. Dashboard stuff. Water pump. Pulleys. Cut all exhaust pieces out. I planned on making a write up on the alternator replacement but I got so frustrated with it I just couldn't take a picture every 5 minutes. Tomorow is the alternator replacement on the 1990. Maybe I'll feel slightly better given its rust free and just focusing on the alternator.

I know that you know your situation better than any of us. But at least consider rebuilding the one you just removed. Is your labor time to do the R&R again in the near future if the used donor takes a crap worth the cost of a rebuild?

Let me tell you. Whata Bltch this was. I will be paying someone the 5 hour 500$ to change this next time. A quart of blood, a few finger nails, dozens and a half bruises later, it is done. Is it normal for the battery to read 14.74 while running BTW.

Side note. Port of albany scrap yard gave me 525 for 2 cats and 2 precat attached to manifolds. Along with the 250 I got for scrapping the shell. 800 dollar car. 775 cash. Plenty of parts to keep this new Q going till it reaches 40.
