1990 hardbody 2.4 fixed some issues now having others

Ok I'm tryin to get my truck back right here's the symptoms every start up takes forever and when it does start sometimes the truck runs perfect other times the truck dies at the touch of the throttle and or back fires through the intake I have changed fuel filter distributor cap rotor plugs and wires and still no difference any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm sure the KA guys will pop in soon to help, but let's start with getting you a service manual: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Hardbody/d21_truck_1990.pdf

Sounds like a crank angle sensor issue. Either the plug itself is bad, which happens rather often, especially with unplugging and plugging it in a few times. Or the sensor has gone bad. Check your distributor plug for cracks and good connections.

To replace the crank angle position sensor do I have to replace the whole distributor?

Ok I've changed distributor,cap,rotor,plugs,wires and air temp sensor and now it's has very rough idle takes a min to start and #4 has no fire but as soon as you get it to idle up its smooths out has no miss and runs perfect any help is much appreciated!
