Hello! here's an excerpt that I've found regarding EPA and engine modification :TeamMTechnix wrote:Lasombra49 do you know if the the R32 engine have to be stock to be imported? I live in Japan and was looking to have my engine mod but afraid it will not pass EPA.. I was reading that regardless if it's 25 yrs, at port of entry US Customs may look into it...lasombra49 wrote:Great info and advice Sean. Thanks for taking the time to write it all. As you said, I'm completely responsible for what happens with my shipment, and that's why I wanted to ask someone that actually went through the experience of getting these cars over here instead of relying on every little thing I see on the internet. Thing is, once the car reaches the US, it's final destination will be Puerto Rico (I can't ship the car directly, so it needs to go through a US port first). Being that Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the United States, the same laws apply regarding 25 year rule and the like. And I completely agree, most of the shipping charges don't make much sense when you think about it, but in the end, you really can't argue, cause otherwise you ain't getting s#$% :P
"A vehicle is exempted if it has been 21 years or more since its original production year and it is in its original unmodified condition."
I'd leave it stock just to make sure it can be imported without any problems. Better give CBP a call if you're thinking of doing it: 877-227-5511. .
