1988 Z31 Dash Problem

How do I fix my dash? I keep hearing it may be a loose connection or a cracked solder in a 5X5X1 in box above the drivers right knee, behind the trim panel. I removed the trim and removed the bolt from the brackets that seemed to be holding it in place, on to have the thing not budge. Then I heard someone say it may be two wires (a fusible link) between the battery and strut housing that are attached to nothing, but I didnt see that either. I pulled and checked all my fuses by the kick panel, none were burnt out. I dont know what's going on. Some of the lights come on (seatbelt, turn signals, security, battery, etc) while the rest dont (speed, rpms, gas, oil, etc). Everything that seems to actually be digital (not a single on-off lamp) doesnt light. Can someone help me?
