I owned this car about a year ago. My boyfriend wired in a head unit in it and it got stolen, ripped it out.the exposed wires touched, sparked, and the car never ran again.I had another car and electrical confused me so i sold it to my boyfriends grandpa(biggest regret ever!).well, they didnt even touch it for about a year since they had it.they offered it to me for $500 and i took it.Well that guy is no longer my boyfriend by the time i was getting the car back. he put it on a dolly and trashed the fenders and bumper ,but thank got i have another z31 sittin around i can use as a parts car.But to the point,i still have the problem.

before i get started on it and ruin anything, anyone have any suggestions.I had this problem before with a del sol but im still working on it and dont find myself very good at electrical, lol. i figured id check the fuses and relays first and start off small, but if anyone else has had this problem, let me know!

serious enquires only,no tech-haters please.i come here for your help because im not as experienced as some of you.thank you for your time and concideration.

first thing is to cap every exposed wire, then check all fuses, then check the fusible links, and the battery, that short might have simply fried the battery, if none fo that helps, take otu the stereo harness and replace it, it's a subharness and a pita to wrestle out but sure beats trying to fix every wire

fusible linkes are inside the little black box in fornt fo the battery, they are basically pieces of wire rated to fail at a given load, if none of them look burtn they are likely fine

Are you getting power to anything at all? Can you turn on the map light for instance?

Most of the fuseable links are on the passenger's side of the engine bay, in the box that evildky mentioned and a smaller box towards the firewall by the battery. There are a few hidden in the frame where the wiring harness comes through where the battery and CMC are located. I can't remember what fuseable links do what, I would go to the junkyard and grab as many as I can fit in my pocket and try those out, it is possibly one is burnt out without looking like it is.

thnks for the suggestion.it makes sence,im not getting power to anything,no fuel pump starter or ecu.i can flip my lights up and hazards work as well as floor board lights.im going outside to check it out right now,ill post up wat i find! do u think there is a circuit breaker like in the z32's? maybe that went out?

Wiring issues aren't my forte', I've always felt that it's almost easier to make up a new harness than to fix messed up wiring. Or replace it in the case of that subharness. But if you are getting power to the the headlights, but none in the cabin then that helps narrow down what it is. Either a fuseable link or a melted wire somewhere.

Might be a good time to pick up a multimeter and check the resistance of the wires.
