Hi Ben, I to was given a 720 KC 4x4 (1985) that has sentimental value to me. (my brother had given me a ride to pick up my daughter(who'd been given up for adoption by her mother and I fought the adoption and won custody when see was 2 &1/2 months old) and gave us a ride back home). Part of the fun of these rigs is fixing all the issues yourself. Your baby blue 82 looks pretty clean, and you can get aftermarket parts for it off ebay. If it were mine I'd get a pass. side fender, corner light, grill, new chrome bumper and end caps and new bumper supports and new lower valance if needed and install them, then take off front bumper and take it to a body shop or 2 and get bids on painting it. Whats up w/ your motor, does it have good compression and have you given it a tune up(changed oil, filters, plugs, wires and cap, adjusted valve lash etc. Do you have a shop manual, if so use it, and the DIY resourses on this website and 720world. For me that's part of the process of saving these rigs as they aren't worth much and most shops charge $80-$100/hr. On mine so far I've replaced all suspension bushing, shocks, brakes, exhaust, replaced all vac. lines, got carb kit, adj. valves and set timing, changed oil, filter plugs, both front fender front bumper and supports, stripped out interior and install heat/sound barrier the reinstalled everything w/ diff. seats, new kenwood stereo, fixed broken transfer case and changed all diff.and trans.fluids and installed new cooper tires and got alignment done, and I've ended up w/ a pretty good 4x4 for less than 3K (and lots of hrs). Hope this helps. Right now I'm sitting down and starting to rebuild the card using the tuitorial here as a reference(my brother had replaced carb and still had the original one laying around) , and I just order a new front exhaust pipe as mine is cracked and I found a new on on ebay for $76 and it would've cost $40 or so to weld up the old one. Its an on going process, so dig in and enjoy.
