I'm looking at getting some 18X8.5" XXR wheels for my 300zx non turbo 2+2 (stock ride height/suspension) But before I buy I want to know what size tires I should run on them. My buddy says 225/40/18's should work but I might rub a little on the front when turning. So my question is, will the 225/40/18's work without rubbing?

What is the offset of the wheels? For most people, a 25-35 mm fits good, depending on spoke design to clear brakes.
Nominal tire width for a 8.5"wide wheel is 245mm +/- 10mm.
225 and lower will start to "stretch" slightly.

They are +35 offset. I'm not worried about stretching them much. Just wanna make sure that I won't be rubbing up front or have any other issues.

IMHO, you should be fine. I would run a 245/40 myself.

Hey guys, hope im not taking over your post and only slightly piggy-backing, but, I am looking to do a wheel upgrade sometime soon. I have read multiple forums and think I have come to a conclusion that I want 18x9.5 +35 all corners, but want a bigger tire in rear. would a 245/40 in fronts and 295/40 work in rear, without modification other than a roll? I am absolutely horrible with this especially since I have my car in the states while im stationed in Germany...any help would be appreciated.

or should I keep tires the same all around for rotation purposes...purpose of car is daily driver and if I get to it some weekend fun here and there....also I know it shouldn't really matter, but I have all SPL suspension parts, Z1 FUCA and Powertrix R/T coilovers (all not installed yet), and its a 2+2..for factual help.

Check out the info on this page...

You'll see that those tires don't fit those wheels very well.

Consider this, you get a good tire, it's going to have a rotation direction. That means you can't rotate your tires left side to right side without removing them from the wheels and rebeading them. You get staggered wheels (bigger in the rear). That means you can't rotate front to rear. So rotation to spread out tread wear won't be an option, making tires a bit expensive as long as your run that setup.

if you're going with a 245 ( tread width ), you should go with a 35 aspect ratio on an 18" wheel. This keeps the overall diameter of the tire closest to the original tire.
Stock N/A , 225/50R16 diameter is 24.9"
upgrade to 245/35R18 diameter is 24.8" wont throw speedometer off as much as
compare to 245/40R18 diameter is 25.7", almost an inch more in diameter to stock

As for the 295/40, while its nice to have an 11.6" wide tire, a diameter of 27.3" is quite a stretch.
a 295/30 would be better at a diameter of 25.0
Just my 2 cents ;)
p.s here's what a 245/35R18 looks like on a 18x8 wheel

Thanks bud, I am seemingly overwhelmed with numbers, specs and choices. I guess I will have to do some measuring in person, when I get to my car and really crunch some numbers...nice wheels btw
