Yesterday I went to a local track and could only manage a best 1/8th mile time of 9.674 and on average of around 9.8. Can someone comment on how fast or slow these times are? And also give me some ideas on cheap ways of improving them?

R/T .47660' 2.386330 6.452/8 9.674MPH 76.34

o btw i have a CVT (and yes it is faster to run with the CVT in just "D" than manual mode)

Yeah those times are about right. Thats what i run. With all the mods i have now, i run about 9.5 9.4. I've run a 9.3 one time, but most of the time im in the 9.5, 9.4 range.

are you building up your RPMs before you launch it? my time EVER racing at a track and with my car stock, i got a 14.5 in the 1/4 mile (with practice i hit a 14.4 stock). with that 14.5 i ran, i got a 9.477 1/8 mile at 77.935 MPH. and that was my first time EVER racing and while being 100% stock, on stock tires... so you should be faster then a 9.477.

what you should do is attempt a burn out (i know our CVT cars cant do good burn outs at the track but at least try it), then when you line up, step on the brake and gas to build up the RPMs like 2,500, then when you go just take your foot off the brake and keep your foot all the way on the gas the whole way down the track..... if you got time and want to see a really good track time, unbolt your exhaust lol when i did that i got a 60ft of 2.169 and a 1/8 mile of 8.992.

haha from where do you unbolt the exhaust? from the y-pipes back? cat-back? or just the muffler itself?

and ye i got my RMPs up to about 2,500 each time before i launched but hussain it also seems like your car is a little faster than average because on edmunds.com it has a CVT doing a 14.8 @96.9 mph. Is there any tricks that you are doing besides building up the RMPs? You left it in Drive right?

ya i just left it in drive...... right after the cat theirs 2 bolts and you just take those off (they are hard to take off the first time) and then just open it up with a flat head screw driver.... mehdi did a a write up on it with a bunch of pics a couple weeks ago. i think the title was like poor mans exhaust or cheap mans exhaust or free exhaust.... something like that.

oh and another thing is that i drive aggressive a lot so the car has adapted to that driving style. you could try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery when you get to the track so the car will adapt to aggressive style after your 1st run.

i got 9.2's at the irwindale speedway, that track just really realy loves me though. at the california speedway 1/4 miles i was getting 14.7s that track hates everybody though lol

and yes, keeping it in drive is faster, lol i also rev up to around 2500, then wen i go i dont completely smash on the gas right away. Also, to burn out u can use the hand brake.
