I have a 2008 XTERRA, I recently noticed a slight vibration while on the Hiway and it would come and go with no specific pattern, two evening ago it gradually became worse on a small road trip. By the time I reached my destination it was a loud popping/banging noise but only when I would let off the gas. This morning I had the front and rear u joints replaced and it still did not correct this noise. I am away from my home and in a small country town where only a few mechanics are available. I'm afraid to chance it and drive home, not sure what to look into next for solving this problem ASAP. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Where is the noise coming from? front? rear? by the wheels? in the engine bay?

Just to make sure, E-brake is disengaged?

Maybe take a video of the sound?
