'08 SE-R Suspension Upgrade Question

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

I'd like to eliminate some ride bounce/wobbliness in my new SE-R. Can someone describe the feel of the Spec V suspension vs. the SE-R, or vs. the Eibach Pro Kit springs if you started with the Spec V?

Wondering if I should have all the Spec V components installed first, certain ones only, or the Eibach & Spec V struts/shocks as a package, or ?

I do not want a bone-jarring ride or jittery ride but hope to eliminate the bounciness I get on a lot of road irregularities. Absolute handling improvements and cosmetic improvements are only secondary/tertiary considerations, as most of my driving is urban in So CA.

Thanks in advance.

Are you asking how to eliminate it from bouncing as in it really bounces a couple of times when you hit a bump? Or are you asking how to make it so you don't feel the bumps so much?

Cause i don't find my car "bounces" in the sense of you know like if you drop a rubber ball. You can certain really tell when you hit something but the ride is well controlled. The spec-v has even stiffer suspension so it'll feel firmer then the SE-R.

If you are looking for a ride that absorbs more of the bumps then you can always go for 16 rims with 205 55 r 16 tires. Or just get a car that's built for comfort.

Oh and if you car is like bouncing up and down then you should ask them to check your suspension. Shouldn't act like a rubber ball.

I know what you're getting at. It's not that it's a bouncy-ball thing, but there's some school-bus-esk bounciness in most stock suspensions when you hit the right (or wrong) kind of undulations.

Stiffer springs will help. The Eibach Pro Kit is designed for this sort of thing - a little lowering and a little bit tighter ride. IMO it wouldn't be worth it to just put on a Spec V suspension.

Welcome to NICO!

i just put a set of pro-kit springs on my 07 spec v. it's only been a couple days, and can take up to a week or two before the full effect of new springs can be felt, but already i notice a big difference between stock. because of their progressive design, the new springs actually feel slightly softer under normal driving condition, i.e. i don't feel all the bumps of the road so much. however the handling under corners is a lot better and i don't feel as much body roll. i would say if you are going to upgrade your suspension and want a simple fix, got with a spring set like the pro-kit. if you are looking for a more extreme difference in handling, go with a strut/spring combo like nametakennow has, or a set of coilovers. that will make your handling a lot tighter, but you will also feel the road a lot more. so depending on what you want as an end result, you have a couple choices there. i posted some before/after pictures of the pro-kit installed on the spec v here if you want to see the cosmetic difference.

Thanks for the replies. Yes it is a bit of the little yellow school-bus body wobble effect I was describing, not bouncy-ball worn shock effect.

As a result of the great posts here I'm getting the Eibach Pro-Kit installed this Friday at Stillen. I think it will do nicely!

Let us know how you feel after. The school bus effect might not be solvable with new spring cause the tail's still got that beam connection between the two sides. The school bus effect is mainly due to the solid axle and we have something more flexible but similar.

It annoys me slightly because on the Rogue based on the same platform they put fully independent rear suspension. So in theory they could have fit the same to the Sentra but decided to cut costs?

i still think its funny that they built a crossover suv on the same platform as my car! ouch what an insult.

I'll let you know how it works out. When I drove the Rogue, it leaned way too much when cornering and also had more powertrain noise than the Sentra.

I HATE my stock suspension, it's HORRID. I, too, have the bouncy-ball effect on my car. I am patiently waiting for the Nismo suspension but I might grow tired of waiting if it isn't coming out soon.

i don't know where nismo has been in all of this. the 07's have been out for over a year now and you'd think they'd be the first to come out with aftermarket parts...

Still no new catalog. I would assume they are waiting for new products for all the new Nissans, since this is the first time in a while Nissan has released this many new models (Versa, Sentra, Altima coupe/Sedan, Rogue, Pathfinder, Frontier, Armada, Titan, all for 2007 and 2008).

Thank you. 1.5 years on Nissan only, 5 months on Honduh, 10 months on BMW/Mini, 3 years total in auto industry.

You must be very valuable at the place you work. I have been reading on this board for a while and just signed up, you have a ton of posts about your knowledge. You seem to know a lot about the product for only being in the business for a short while.

You're inflating my head LOL. Once I went on my own, I started helping all the other master techs (I am still hourly at this point in time) and learning things. When I have major issues (I.E. check engine lights) I refer to the diagnostic procedure in the service manual and follow the steps. Things have gotten easier since I see a few of the same problems from time to time. My only downfall is a lack of tools but I am building that up as we speak.

Has anyone else here heard about Ksport's coilovers? My curiosity kicked in when I was trying to figure out, with the multi-link setup in back, how a rear coilover will work. Does it eliminate the stock spring location?

I just had the Eibach Pro upgrade in the SE-R. The improvement in appearance is nothing less than dramatic, and handling follows the road much more closely instead of so many disconnected wobble-body motions of the school-bus variety. The reduced travel is obvious, but the ride is not harsh at all. Movement starts out supple then quickly tightens up as advertised. Haven't been on the freeway or twisty roads yet, but it's pretty obviously an improvement overall. Note I don't have to deal with a lot of potholes or rough roads; your situation may differ. Parts, labor, tax was a bit over $500 at Stillen.
