I'm not familiar with how far Saskatoon is from the US border, but I know some prospective Canadian Rogue owners have come south of the border to buy their car, as the CDN$ goes farther here than up there...gowings wrote:Anybody bought or leased an 08. Looking for price before i start haggling. SL auto is our choice. Options not sure, but sure wish heated seats were an option along with the intelligent key system. Have them on our other vehicle and love them.

Well, if I could have bought it outright, then I might have thought about buying it in the USA, but since 1.9% financing isn't an option for the cross border shopper......longo wrote:So,
I wish all Canadians would cross border shop for big ticket items like this and make the local fat-cat car dealers step up or go broke. (not much chance of either happening)

And yet if you look at the middle of last year, when the ORIGINAL pricing was set for the Versa in both countries, it was 1.11 CAD vs 1.00 USD. Which puts that $14730 US price tag at $16350. Apples to apples. You were, at the time, paying the equivalent of $1000 more. Part of that, yes, is shipping. Part of that is also equipment differences between the two countries, and part of that is probably profit (would that be terribly surprising for a corporation?)longo wrote:On checking the Nissan internet sites today, the MSRP of that car is $14,730 in the U.S. and $17,398 in Canada.
The biggest difference for your U.S. dollar is against the Euro that is kicking Uncle Sam in the clangers, the 'loonie' is about par today.

As for any warm fuzzy PR that Nissan could come up with to soften the dollar blow to our wallet on the '08 model is a pitifull $300 credit card discount.
AS for your U.S. dollar being "worthless" our money has been laughingly referred to as the Canadian Peso, for years.
On one point we do agree, it costs the U.S. a lot of borrowed money to finance a Middle East military invasion that has now dragged on longer than WW2.

Buying a Eruopean Import (if there is such a thing anymore) this year in the U.S. should bring it home to you guys what we have had to put up with for the past 25 years.
Even on the Hondas built in Canada, they cross the border and get sold cheaper in the U.S. than here.
I say, Canadian New Versa Buyers, head for NJ drive one home and let God sort it out.
That's basically MSRP up there.gowings wrote:is this an 08 with automatic. Got a price today for a 08 SL auto with tech package, mud flaps, mats and locking wheel nuts for 20,823.00 plus tax. Seems high . Any thoughts people?
Did the "e-mail invite for a quote" thing with four local dealers. Only one (the one an hour away, of course) responded with a call and a follow-up e-mail within a reasonable time. A second called a couple of days after I had decided to buy from the original responder, and didn't even bother to learn to pronounce my [French] name properly -- in a so-called bilingual city! -- and started off the call by saying "Mr. ______, you have probably already bought a car for your wife . . . " No sale!joann_and_damons_versa wrote:Research your invoice prices and then "play the game" at 2 or 3 dealers before actually buying. Don't make an impulse decision. Don't let them wear you down. It's just like buying a trinket in a third world country (just a little more nerve racking).
