I paid 14,600 out the door cost for a 2008 Versa S model with all the fixins. I was quoted @ 16,000 for a fully loaded SL model but I went cheap.

I'm not familiar with how far Saskatoon is from the US border, but I know some prospective Canadian Rogue owners have come south of the border to buy their car, as the CDN$ goes farther here than up there...

You might look into buying a V from a US dealer and paying whatever import/duty is necessary to get it home. You'd also be able to get your iKey system if you did that.

My wife is on her way to pick up our 2008 SL w/CVT (no other options). We are financing over 36 months, and paid a total (all incl. freight, pdi, ac tax, Nova Scotia tire tax) of $22,090. Our payments work out to $631/month. The dealer threw in the 4 rubber mats and bumper guard as well. This includes the $300 visa promotion listed on the Canada website.

I imagine that we could have gotten a bit of a better deal buying in a larger centre, like Montreal (with 12 dealerships, vs. Halifax with..umm...one), but we wanted to support a NS dealership. Not sure what the dealership situation is like in Saskatchewan, but essentially we got a quote at one dealership that we didn't like, and used that as leverage at an out-of-town dealership (in Kentville, NS). We got much better service there, and I'm really excited to get the car.

Good luck with your purchase!

I paid $16,100 (agreed upon price before taxes, etc.) for a 2008 Blue Onyx with CVT, ABS, Mudflaps and Versa Floor Mats. It was shown at $100 above Dealer Invoice. I bought it in Woodbridge, NJ at Sansone's Route 1 Nissan. It was at the end of the 3rd Quarter and the sales guy did not haggle too much with me.

So,

'wobblypete' pays over $22,000 for a Versa SL with CVT in Nova Scotia Canada and 'charlybasset' gets the same car in NJ with more options for $16,100?!

That's a price gouge of almost $6,000 more.

I wish all Canadians would cross border shop for big ticket items like this and make the local fat-cat car dealers step up or go broke. (not much chance of either happening)

I hear that some of the big car manufacturers have actually banded together to stop this from happening by not honoring the warranties of their new cars bought in the U.S.

As the Versa is built in Mexico, I could see a difference of say a thousand dollars more on shipping to Canada, but Nissan is simply gouging the hell out of us on the price, just becasuse they can.

Whoa, cool your jets.

Nissan determined their Canadian pricing on the Versa WELL before the CDN$ was worth more than the USD$. It has been THREE DECADES since this last happened, and pricing of Canadian goods has NOT changed to reflect this. It's not just cars. Or Nissan.

And it's not like Nissan could drop all the prices on their cars to accurately reflect the value of the Canadian dollar over the course of a year, because that would piss off everyone in Canada that bought and paid for a Versa at '07 pricing. At best they can gradually decrease it.

Or, alternately, you could place the blame where it REALLY lies... with the American economy in all its confused glory. I know that everyone wants there to be glorious growth at all times, but when both your real estate and credit markets collapse simultaneously, the answer is NOT to make money EASIER to borrow... (gee, wonder why the USD$ is worthless now?).

In defence of the Car Industry and the GB's who run it, you miss the point by a kilometer. I bought a new Versa last year and paid over $22.000 for it as well, you don't think I am already pissed off ?

On checking the Nissan internet sites today, the MSRP of that car is $14,730 in the U.S. and $17,398 in Canada.

As for any warm fuzzy PR that Nissan could come up with to soften the dollar blow to our wallet on the '08 model is a pitifull $300 credit card discount.

AS for your U.S. dollar being "worthless" our money has been laughingly referred to as the Canadian Peso, for years.

On one point we do agree, it costs the U.S. a lot of borrowed money to finance a Middle East military invasion that has now dragged on longer than WW2.

The biggest difference for your U.S. dollar is against the Euro that is kicking Uncle Sam in the clangers, the 'loonie' is about par today.

Buying a Eruopean Import (if there is such a thing anymore) this year in the U.S. should bring it home to you guys what we have had to put up with for the past 25 years.

Even on the Hondas built in Canada, they cross the border and get sold cheaper in the U.S. than here.

I say, Canadian New Versa Buyers, head for NJ drive one home and let God sort it out.

Yea our Pilot came from Texas. I think you can't bring a 08 into Canada with a manufacture Sept/07 date or later due to immobilizer issues and Transport Canada regulations. Plus no warranty unless first registered in U.S. before coming to Canada.

In defense of the car buyer. GM is now running ads with prices shown in U.S. and Cdn.

Paid 17k for a versa S automatic, this includes taxes and registration, I got the powerpackage in it and the floor mats. Nothing else much the lightbulb in the glove compartment. To think about it I could have bought an 07 civic for the same price, but I was too lazy to go to that dealership :D so i get versa

Well, if I could have bought it outright, then I might have thought about buying it in the USA, but since 1.9% financing isn't an option for the cross border shopper......

Also, I do feel it is important to support the greedy bastards in my community that provide jobs and pay taxes...I feel guilty enough about buying an import car already, I don't think I could handle buying from a dealer in the USA.

And, just FYI, that price includes 14% provincial and federal tax. The before tax price is $18,419, so not quite as much a difference as you think.

And yet if you look at the middle of last year, when the ORIGINAL pricing was set for the Versa in both countries, it was 1.11 CAD vs 1.00 USD. Which puts that $14730 US price tag at $16350. Apples to apples. You were, at the time, paying the equivalent of $1000 more. Part of that, yes, is shipping. Part of that is also equipment differences between the two countries, and part of that is probably profit (would that be terribly surprising for a corporation?)

I somehow doubt that your local canadian dealerships are suddenly paying $2500 less for a Versa than they were last year. Expecting a dealership to charge you the same as a US dealership would be ludicrous.

Quote »Buying a Eruopean Import (if there is such a thing anymore) this year in the U.S. should bring it home to you guys what we have had to put up with for the past 25 years.[/quote]You say that like they haven't already been overpriced in the US for the past 25 years. It's only been in the last two years that Volkswagen has figured out that their cars sell better if they're not 25% more expensive than equivalent cars by other manufacturers.

Though they still haven't figured out that electrical and fuel delivery problems don't help their standing.

You are right about that! CDN dealerships have a captive, well protected market that they are not going to give up come Hell or High exchange rates.

I am not so naive to think so, but here's whats happening...

There are dealerships in your own State that are welcoming CDN vehicle buyers, offering to do all the paperwork for importing the vehicle into Canada and even coming up with creative solutions to the roadblocks that the Manufactures are quickly putting in place to stop the cross border flow of new cars and trucks.

Nissan, Honda, and Toyota are not among them.

Reply back from Nissan Canada on price difference between USA/ Canada

Dear Sir/Madame,

Pricing for Nissan and Infiniti products offered in Canada is based on Nissan Canada's assessment of the appropriate competitive value relationship that we need to achieve with our vehicles, in order to meet our business expectations in Canada. This assessment is based on an evaluation of our volume expectations, the price and content differences with key competing vehicles and an understanding of prevailing in-market conditions. Therefore, as the distributor of Nissan and Infiniti products in Canada, our prices are based solely on conditions that exist within the Canadian market.

We thank you for the opportunity to respond.

Yours truly,

Hey gowings,

I'm going to pick up my Versa Hatchback SL w/ Technology & Sport packages tomorrow here in Regina.

The Canadian MSRP including freight and PDE before taxes is $21,248. I managed to get the dealer to drop $450 bringing the total price (before taxes) to $20,798. I also purchased a print-out from CARCOSTCANADA.COM to use in the bargaining and I am pretty happy with the price I got after seeing the real prices.

Also, Nissan Canada has a promotion running right now where you will get a $300 Visa gift card until January 2, 2008.

Let me know if you have any more questions~!

gowings got mail!

In reading this little Nissan Note, it would seem you got a 'form letter' prepared for the many similar questions that all the CDN Manufactures must be getting about the big difference in prices between U.S. and Canada.

The bottom line looks to me like Nissan is saying, "we don't know and we don't care what's going on out there, this is our price, take it or leave it."

Reminds me of the three Monkeys with hands over their eyes, ears and mouths.

When more people buy their cars and trucks for thousands less in the U.S. that corporate stonewall defence will look pretty pathetic.

A friend of mine is importing a new Ford F 350 from Washington State for $18,000 less than the same model in Canada.

Canadian Versa shoppers should check out the year end deals in the U.$.

We paid 18,000 out-the-door. 08 Versa SL, bluetooth, CVT, ABS, sunroof, convenience package, everything. It was $16K or something before tax, license, etc.Research your invoice prices and then "play the game" at 2 or 3 dealers before actually buying. Don't make an impulse decision. Don't let them wear you down. It's just like buying a trinket in a third world country (just a little more nerve racking).

Did the "e-mail invite for a quote" thing with four local dealers. Only one (the one an hour away, of course) responded with a call and a follow-up e-mail within a reasonable time. A second called a couple of days after I had decided to buy from the original responder, and didn't even bother to learn to pronounce my [French] name properly -- in a so-called bilingual city! -- and started off the call by saying "Mr. ______, you have probably already bought a car for your wife . . . " No sale!

I went into a third dealer (just up the street from us) to see what they would do. I told them I wanted a bottom line price; the salesperson kept coming back with a monthly payment scenario. I said "no, bottom line", he said "monthly payment". So I gave him a monthly payment price of about $4. a month less than I'd wind up with the initial dealer; he took it to his sales manager who sent back word "if you can get that deal, take it!". So I did. Didn't Walkley Nissan [can I do that here?] in the first place -- a couple of years ago I went looking for an Altima and the salesperson tried to low-low ball me on a trade ($300 on a valued $2500 van!).

$470 off MSRP and admin fees, etching, and wheel locks "thrown in" (whoo-hoo!).

Hoping to be happy.
