When i first got this car 3 months ago, the rear washer fluid used to come out just fine, of course i was just testing it to see if it worked or not.

Then i didnt use the rear washer fluid until last week, and nothing came out! I thought it was the amount of washer fluid, so i filled it to the top with some Peak -20F washer fluid, and still nothing!! All i hear is the electrical pump turning on and no fluid coming out of the back. The rear wiper turns on and starts to wipe the windows...but no fluid so its dry!

I can get washer fluid to come out of the front and stuff....whats going on? is the line frozen? I live on long island, ny and there was a recent ice/snow storm but it has been 40 degrees (during the day time) for the past couple of days...

anyone has any ideas? Not a big deal or anything just want to know if you guys might know something to help get this issue resolved?

We have used ours successfully on several occasions, but the other day I tried to use the rear window washer and it didn't spray. It was in the upper 20s outside, and after the second attempt it came out fine. I attributed this to the weather (it was sleeting and such, so I figured the sprayer was a little iced over) but I sure hope there isn't a deeper issue with the sprayer.

Well there is only one washer fluid tank which means there is a line that runs all the way to the back of the car which is likely frozen.

If it's getting 40 in the day, what's it getting down to at night, 15? I would imagine that it's frozen over and stays frozen enough during the day to not spray. If you're only seeing temperatures above freezing for a few hours a day, it's probably not long enough for the line to thaw.

since i owned the versa its been down to -25C and no problems reported. could the nozzle be clogged in any way? up here we have winter washing fluid down to something like -35 or -40..... i dont know what you guys use down south.

Try either using a needle in the nozzle (explained in the owners manual) or err..... fill up with some stuff that doesnt freeze till you're down in the -30s

Cleaned the nozzle with a long needle - I'm guessing because I've never used the rear spray... the fluid just evaporated and left a dry residue of whatever is in it.

The "spray" is more like a trickle of fluid? But ah well - glad it works.

Yeah, a trickle is normal. They don't really need a full spray because it's pointed down, not up, so gravity's not working against it.

Hm, I should ask my dealer about this, since I didn't even know it was *supposed* to do anything, mine hasn't worked since day 1.

My rear washer worked for about a month. at around 3000 miles it stopped working. I took it to the dealer and they said there was a problem with the pump. They had to order a part and I am still waiting for the repair.

What do you mean. Its explained that you push the wiper stalk on the steering column away from you to use the rear washer nozzle.

I've not had a problem with mine, unless its frozen in the mornings (like this morning when the front ones were frozen as well).

Where in the manual is this mentioned, can't find it.

As I posted earlier, my rear washer worked for the first few weeks but stopped working and the dealer offered to replace a part. They ordered a part and it took a few weeks to come in. In the meantime the washer started working again. I live in the south but this was during a period of below freezing temps. I think the rear washer must be more prone to freezing than the front.

I've had my V since November without any probs with the rear sprayer. I am amazed though that the tank for the fluid holds a whole bottle! I bought a gallon from Autozone and it took the whole thing! I've never had a car/truck take a full gallon and this is the smallest car I've ever owned.

Yes the rear nozzle hose will be easier to freeze then the front simply from the lack of constant heat from the interio of car or engine bay.

there is 4 things you can do:

1) dont use your rear sprayer

2) use specific Cold Weather Washer fluid, aka, higher alcohol amount.

3) Insulate the washer hose, with a nonflamable covering.

4) Heated washer fluid through a product such as Microheat's Hot Shot. (have in current car, and i love it) http://www.windshieldwiperheaters.com/index.htm
