Hello everybody. I'm going to see an 05 Q45 kept in storage since bought, like a dozen miles on the odometer. Apparently someone bought it in 05 and put it into storage and that's it. The seller says it's been to the dealers for all the fluid changes recently. it's mint inside and outside. He asks for 15K.

Is the value there? Is it too much ? Is the car a potential pain in the a**?

It may be a potential pain in the a** (may need new engine gaskets, will need new ac system, new tires, perhaps new ABS pump and a few other things, hoses and fuel lines likely brittle at this point.. )
We may be looking at several 1000s of dollars.

Borescoping the engine might also not be a bad idea to see how it looks in there.
With that long a storage there could be rust anywhere..

But the concept of a time capsule Q45 is very cool.
I'd certainly be sorely tempted despite the likely pitfalls.

A thorough test drive followed by a competent Nissan/Infiniti techs inspection should unravel most damage.
use that report to knock money off the price.

There are many here who'd prefer a car with say 40,000 miles in an '05 over one with near zero.

BTW: Since its "been to the dealer" it starts and drives?

The guy says it runs great. It has tan/beige interior that is mint, perfect leather and everything. I have 15K to burn but it's a prospect of it falling apart mechanically as it starts being driven daily that scare me.

That's a unique opportunity for sure! I think it's in such uncharted territory, there's not much we can tell you with what to expect. If it were me, I'd replace every fluid first, then see where it all shakes out.

Nissan has "time capsule" cars at their headquarters, including an early 90s Q that has been featured in some magazine articles. If you were lucky enough to get through to whoever maintains that fleet of museum cars, they would be able to give you a better idea of what to expect.

What city is this Q located? You are looking at least another 5 grand in repairs and parts (if they can be found) in the next 5 years. My 96Q has had $17,000.00 in regular maintenance since new and approaching 170g miles.

Here's the 92Q that I was referring to. Looks like it lives in Tennessee. From the pictures, it got an Advanced Auto Parts battery, and has filthy brake fluid.
:) Still, if they'll talk to you it could be worth the time tracking them down.

Seller is on crack. Thy weren't a great car when new (when was the last time you saw a 3rd-gen Q on the road)?

Non-use is just as (if not more) damaging than miles. New tires, engine seals, fluids, hoses, belts are the bare minimum. I'd suspect the injectors to be fouled and the fuel filter needs changing, as well as flushing the tank.

The only person who will know it's got no miles is you. I'd value it at about 30% more than KBB Excellent.

Not for $15k. I purchased mine with miles on it and it was near mint. I paid $1800.00 for it. The parts are hard to find and a lot of the parts are discontinued so you'd need to buy used. You can buy a much newer Infiniti (or any other brand) for $15k that will give you few problems with a parts inventory that should be cheap to fix should it break down.

How about this gen 2 instead for $9800 with 88K miles?

The seller says the car is mint and that it is "becoming collectible". Do we believe it?

I wouldn't spend 10k on this car. I sold my 97' with 120k for $6k, and I had completely redone the suspension, since he doesn't indicate that he's done that you have few choices redo this trying to find OEM stuff which is expensive or completely redoing it with coilovers. The coilpacks, value cover gasgets, knock sensors, and O2 Sensors will all be in line to be replaced. I would offer the $5,550-6,500 with the idea that 3-5k in the next 2 years is waiting for you to invest.

I don't think I would go for $10K either for the same reasons outlined by BadQ45t. Of course, if I really loved the idea of a pristine Gen 2, then the options are likely limited. Buying this car for $10K and then investing another $5 would leave you with $15K invested and you would have a vehicle with plenty of life left in it. You can't get anything too great for $15K in today's used car market.

I would ask the guy if he's done suspension, if he has than I would maybe lean towards offering 7k. Either OEM or Coilovers will cost you nearly 2k installed. Also don't think that Cat Converters are going to last forever too very expensive on these cars, for sure coilpacks will go that will cost 1k and valve covers about 1k when all is said and done.

Catalytic converters don't go bad from age, just from usage, and far more quickly with any sort of misfiring that allows unburned fuel into the exhaust. If this Q has been maintained there's no reason the converters would need to be replaced.

My dad 92' needed new ones at 95k he had an extended warranty they were 2,500 bucks. These are things you just need to budget for if you keept he car. I figured that I had 5k in expensses for my 97' at 120kk when I sold it as I had original knock sensors, coil packs and valve covers.

I went through my 95, plugs, fuel filter, hoses, belts, brakes. Most brake shops don’t put the shim kits in, hood struts, battery, tires, trans fluid, rear fluid, PS fluid, I need to do the coolant again now. Buy it for the love of these cars. You won’t make money on it. Lol

For that kind of money save some more and get a q70l luxe 5.6 because after you dump 4 grand minimum to get that one road worry you would have brought the 2015 luxe.

Good point, ya, you gotta love the old ones to go that route.
