My daughter has an 03 Altima with the 2.5 L engine and 5speed.
She has been having problems with it as of late. The car stumbles upon harder acceleration and throws a check engine light. The light says "random misfire" or "misfire on #2 cylinder" or something like that. I don't know the exact codes.
She and her father-in-law replaced the #2 coil pack and spark plug and some other minor tune up parts but still no help. While working on the car in the garage, I discovered that if I remove the harness going to the #2 fuel injector, the car's RPMs don't change all that much compared to doing the same thing on the other cylinders.
I'm not sure what is wrong so she took it to a shop today. They diagnosed it and said that the electrical is fine but there is blow by and that they think that it has a broken piston ring.
What do you guys think? Any suggestions? Broken piston ring to me equals time for new engine but there are none in any yards near me.
