This problem has annoyed me since the first day I test drove my s14. Everytime I hit a bump, the trunk lid would rattle. I tried adjusting the latch, but there was no more adjustments that could be made. I was missing one of the rubber bumpers on the trunk lid, so I called Nissan and ended up ordering the all three pairs of bumpers to replace. It turns out that the largest pair of bumpers in the middle, near the rear were causing the problem. They are supposed to look like "nipples" essentially, but my old ones were crushed compared to the new ones. Once I replaced them, no more rattle! Oh the sanity!!!

Here is the part #:84840-65F00 (BUMPER-TRUNK)You will need 2 of them

I hope this helps. Cheers.

It was $10.77 for all 6 bumpers. I think it was $5.45 for the pair I mentioned above.

Thank you so much for the info. I guess that will fix my problem as well.

For those of you wanting a picture ive included them. #5,6 and 7 are all bumpers.

Could you please show us which ones in the picture you replaced? Also how were they attached to the trunk?

Thank you very much.

Ya, that trunk rattle is supposed to be really bad in S14's but my car has almost 140k now and I have no rattle yet... knock on wood.

That's cool that you fixed it, a lot of people have that problem.

It's #5 in that diagram. #5 also matches my part number above. I think if you look at that bumper and see that the inner 'nipple' is compressed or skewed, then it should make a big difference to replace them. They just twist in place. There is a rubber cone on the back that just needs to be pushed into the hole in the trunk.

you can ghetto fix it with duct tape, that's what I did. The inner bumpers above the lights are flattened on mine. (14 and 16)

Unfortunatly, the rattles is slowly coming back. The new rubber bumpers don't appear to be compressed yet, but it's possible they are over time. Too bad. It was fun while it lasted. Trust me it is no where near as bad as it was, but still not silent.

This is what I did. I put dynamat over all the "holes" (thin areas) in the trunk lid. Viola!!!! No more rattle!

I looked in my trunk and found that all rubber nipples no. 5, 6, and 7 are all there but it looks like there should be one on the left side like no. 6. Where are the other 3 rubber pieces in the trunk? Is it possible that the center piece between the tailights can rattle too? If I bang on my trunk lid that is the only thing that makes noise. If so how would you solve that problem? Please help I can't stand the banging sound that occurs every time i drive over any uneven surfaces.

I also want to know how to adjust the latch. I have the ratlle, but with a 10" sub in the back, the lid REALLY rattles. Im also the kind of person that goes crazy by rattles in the car.

To adjust the latch, you need to loosen the bolts holding it to the sheet metal in the trunk. What I did was I pulled the back seats down, and climbed in the trunk with a ratchet. I loosened the bolts, pulled the trunk lid down with one hand and tightened the bolts with the other. If you adjust the latch too far down it won't pop with the remote release. I have my new bumpers on order, should be here by friday...
