I recently did a DIY on a manual transmission on my s13:http://www.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=95826after changing the fluid, my shifting is extremely perfect. I just love shifting and drifting.

Now i'm kinda in mood to change gear oil for the differential.

What oil is good for open differential for 91-93 s13. I hear Redline is good. I used redline mt-90 for transmission and its perfect.

So what type? weight? make?

I've tried mobil 1, it was mediocre compared to the motul 90PA. I've compared to my buddy who's got redline, it's nice but not as smooth as the Motul. However, Motul is also quite a bit more expensive.

I use lucasoil for my LSD. I suggest you dont even buy new gear oil for your open differential, and just save up for an LSD, but then again, nobody listens to me so why should you... ok im done ranting

Yes redline is very good, but expensive. i beleive 240sx.org has the weights of gear oils in the FAQ, but pretty much anything will work from 75W90 to 80W140.

****************************************************SORRY, I'M BRINGING THIS POST BACK********************************************************

i grabbed 5 bottles of Redline mt-90 other day to change my transmission and differential fluid other day. I've been running mt-90 in transmission and differential already, but someone said not to use it in differential at all.

I need to know two things by tormorrow afternoon:

1) i have time tomorrow, so to what can I replace my differential fluid with?? I need a brand that i can grab at regular auto stores like Autozone, advance auto parts, Pep boys??? Will use 75w-90. GL-5, synthetic, BUT WHAT BRAND??

2) its been a while. 1.5 liters, aprxx 1.6 quarts in differential right??

i appreciate your responses.

1) FSM calls for 80w-90...but either will work fine. MUST BE GL-5.

2) Yes.

As for brand...it really doesn't matter. You wont gain any performacne by using "better" diff fluid...and any of the synthetics will do fine. I prefer Mobil, FWIW.
