Sup guys it's been a lil while since i've posted anything...Got the motor running... but the timing is lagging big time... so the CAS was removed and we discovered something is wrong with the exhaust cam. It's a b*tch just to source an exhaust cam... and since this leaves me with the option for upgrading... i was wondering if anyone has some knowledge on cam upgrades of our beloved rb25. I've shopped around and i can't find any companies in the states that supply cams...I would like to keep a stock idle and valve train... so nothing too aggresive... although it depends on what i can find... so i'd appreciate any kind of help!thanx guys!

are you sure it is the camshaft itself, and not something in your valve train or part of the CAS? it is pretty rare that a camshaft can be messed up unless it was somehow nicked due to human error on assembly/disassembly?

its hard to damage a camshaft before other valvetrain components, whats the story behind your problem?

and im also curious about this, thinking for semi-short term.

Come on Everyone help me pick out a set of cams!!!! The easiest place i could find them was http://www.takakaira.com HKS - In: 256*/8.80mm Ex: 256*/8.80mm Ex: 264*/9.00mmany suggestions.. ... i believe these are their stage 1 cams for the rb25 and they describe them as direct bolt-ons and no valvetrain replacement is neccessary.

if you cant find any just have them do a regrind. although probably most companies that offer cams for sr20 will probably have them for the rb as well. maybe tomei, as they make the poncam which doesnt require using an aftermarket valvetrain.

I think I've found what i needed... doing a little research in a few Aussie forums, I've come to discover not all camshaft manufacturers (that make cams for the rb25) produce cams with VVT in mind. I know Tomei and HKS make some that let you keep VVT.

With that in mind... I've come to find that the biggest duration isn't always the best... performance wise, it's better to have a larger *lift* than *duration*.

I'm still not clear on the factory lift of rb25 cams, but i do know stock duration is 240* and an rb26dett stock duration is 248*.

I have also read the largest lift on a cam you should get for an rb25 is 9.00mm ... Go larger than that and it would be a good idea to die grind the head.

Since I couldn't find any camshaft suppliers here in the USA i have looked to the land of the rising sun for answers... two major websites that I've been going back and forth between were takakaira.com and greenline.com

Greenline.com has a deal... Tomei Poncams 256* 8.5mm lift (in/ex) 573.637US 256* is ideal for a mild street upgrade, allow you to keep stock valve train (not trying to go into high rev ranges) and these Tomei cams allow you to keep VVT as well.

HKS offers 256* in 8.8MM IN and a 264* 9.00MM EX @ takakaira.com ...but unlike greenline.com you have to purchase these cams separately at about $351 a piece.

Trying to decide which would be a better investment... the extra lift on the exhaust and little bit more duration... or save the $200

Either way i know since I'm not going to an extreme lift i won't be replacing my valve train so it's not going to be a significant gain in power.... but on the other hand... every little bit helps. Any thoughts?????

You can just put some Rb26 cams that some times appear in ebay

I frequent the aussie boards often and it seems they prefer the tomei poncams for both the rb25 and rb26. Not only is it cheaper for both than the hks, but you can use it with your stock valvetrain, vvt, and they all seem to agree that cam gears aren't necessary since tomei got it "spot on"

You should also try http://www.nengun.com . They're price for the cams are $541.78. I actually just bought my power fc and commander from them for $860 shipped.

rb26 cams require solid lifters since the rb25 has hydrolic ... few other things would have to be modified to use these as well... but to keep this thread up to date i have already placed my order with greenline for Tomei Poncams 256* In/Ex 8.5mm ... very excited to see how they will perform

** Still don't know what i'm going to do about my CAS bracket... having it welded back seems too much of a risk and i'm not wanting to have another broken cam

Why don't you contact GTR Shop or just have the thing welded back together. Its just a bracket...

i was going to pick CAS bracket up today from getting it welded. i gonna be pretty busy so i plan to pick it up tomorrow. i will post some pics for you when i pic it up. my speculation is that it really doesnt go through a lot of stress unless something else is not running smoothly, but if that is the case there are other probs that need to be solved as well.

Let me know how your CAS looked and your impression of it after you pick it up... send pics if you can... I don't believe it would be under much stress but I'm only going by what my mechanic has told me
