Im about to swap my 1998 240sx transmission from A/t to manual. I am following the instructions listed on 240sx. org but on the last step it describes the wiring for backup light and wiring

IT STATES The top connector with two female blade connections needs to be jumpered for the car to start.  The third connector down from the top uses pins 3 & 8 for the backup lights.  Switch pins 3&8 using the wiring from the backup light switch on the transmission. Can someone explain this better or do you know how to email the guy Rich who posted the instructions also Im a little concerned about reconnecting all the other sensors and wires. should I be concerned? or do the all match up. Should my swap need a new manual wiring harness?

thankS

I'm in middle of doing this myself.

The top two wires are easy enough, you just splice them together so the car always thinks it is in park/neutral so it will always start.

I'm not positive about the reverse lights.. but it looks like you just splice together the wires from 3 and 8 on both ends. Cut the connector and use 3 and 8 on the connector to splice into your 5 speed reverse sensor. I'd image this will take me some trial and error... but so long as you use the connector it should be plug and play.

I'm not plugging in the rest of the sensors. I don't know why the 5 speed has a neutral switch anyway.. and the 4th and 5th gear sensors are, I believe, just for speed governing by limiting the rpms in those gears.

Good luck

I am in the process of doing this as well and gathered most of the parts. I am glad you posted this question. But one shop said I needed the Transmission wiring harness for all this to work. Is this true or should I just find another shop?

Im not sure about the wire harness also the other reply explains it a bit. I just ordered a complete swap of the parts I need from an ebay auction. He said it has the wiring harness. I'll let you know if there is something special.

I'm hoping someone will send us the lowdown on this last piece of the swap.

ok , i did the 5 speed swap in my convertible about 4 months ago..... I didnt use another wiring harness...... i dont think its needed....... i may be wrong but my car is working just fine...... there are 2 big wires that were brown and black.... those all u do is cut after the connector then jumper those ( twist them together) , as for the other ... there is one called the Inhibitor - this one u need to get this clips from autozone or something .... they close down on the wire and tap into it ... there is a male and female end so u can plug them together with another wire tapt into the female end to create a circuit..... i cant remember exactly which wires u connect but i hope this works..... if possible , check the reverse switch before u put the transmission back in the car..... i found it best to remove the plug from the transmission while tryin to put the transmission up into the car...... mine got broke the first time.....so just think bout that..... and also u wont use all of the plugs... i think i only used like 2 or 3 of them.... hope this helps a lil..... and i hope it didnt confuse anyone.....

i'm just about done with my swap, all except for the wiring. now, the two big brown / black wires that you speak of, are located where, under the hood by the fuse box? or near the bellhousing / starter. i know there are a few sensors , reverse light, 5th gear, and nuetral position. part of the problem with mine though, is i'm using a transmission from a ka24e on my KA24DE. so i know there are a few sensors missing from my transmission. if you can give me any "insight" it would be much appreciated. thanks ahead of time.
