Coolant thru TB actually cools?

Hi there, I pointed out to a friend that the KA24DE has coolant lines which pass though the throttle body. From what I learned from NICO, this was to prevent freezing in winter months of throttle plate. I told him I was thinking about removing it for simplicities sake, also noting that it could only but *heat* the incoming air.

He told me that the coolant running through the TB actually helps to *cool* the air? Is there any truth to this? I am inclined to believe him, but have to hear a reasonable explaination before I buy it (he couldn't offer one)

Regards,-Jamie

i cant really see how 150*-200* water would be cooling down ambient air. to my understanding, its just there to prevent icing the throttle plate.

In a stock KA24(D)E engine it's not required and may lower air temps when removed. However, when you turbo something without an intercooler (or a smic) the coolant will actually work to cool the air and manifold. I know SR guys don't notice a difference with it removed.

So basically: N/A you can remove it and maybe get 2-3 hp.

Turbo remove it an you may lose hp.

Good to know-thanks for making that distinction. The hose is still in good shape, so I'll just have to replace it if[when] I go turbo.

it will cool it on a hot day before the coolant heats up. Once it heats up, though, it'll probably warm the air a bit.

who told you guys this stuff? Its suppose to heat up the incoming air along with the egr valve and everything else emission wise to prevent uneven burning on the cylinder heads... the egr recirculats the exhaust gases along with heated incoming air to prevent the cylinders from getting hot spots on them. you won't tell a difference on it if you remove it

Intresting I never knew the throttle body has coolant lines passing through it, hmm learn something new everyday.

The main function of it is to generally regulate the temperature of the incoming air so it runs less crappy until it gets up to temperature. Also, it is there to stop the throttle plate from freezing to the throttle body in colder climates.
