Car: 1992 Nissan 240SX Convertible

Post

Hey guys, first post here on the forum. I'm the proud owner of a 1992 240SX Convertible (black, 120K, 2nd owner), and the driver seat is wearing through on the bottom and back of the seat, and I'd like to find a replacement.

Talking to different people around, it seems that different seats were used in the 240 coupe and the 240 fastback. Is this true? If so, which does the convertible use?

Does anyone know of more recent seats that will be a direct bolt in for these stock seats? I wonder if '95 or '96 240 seats would work? Any other Nissan cars use the same pattern? I'd like to get some newer seats...otherwise, any other old '92 seats I get would probably have the same issue.

Also, the carpet is wearing through on the driver's side, and I'm wondering if anyone has an affordable carpet kit for this car. If so, how much and how difficult is it to install?

Thanks for any assistance,Marshall

Marshall - Welcome to NICO!

As far as I know, the 'vert used the same seats as all other S13's. Therefore, you could use seats from any 89-94 240sx. However, i am also under the impression that S14 seats will bolt right in, and they are FAR nicer.

http://www.autoupholsterykits.com has our carpet kit!

Welcome, I am new here also. I am going to check out the carpet guy in Vancouver. I am also looking for certain parts for my 93. I see you are from Portland, I am from Oregon City. What color are your seats? I am looking into something different for my car and the seats in mine are pretty decent.

Guys, thanks for the welcome.

Hitman, I'm a little behind on the terminology here. I love my car, but I'm not a car geek by any means. I'm guessing from reading the site a bit that the earlier version 240 is the S13, while the later version (maybe '95 to '97) is the S14? I'll have to check out the carpet place in Vancouver, since $100 sounds like a pretty good price. Has anyone used their carpets before?

Joe, my car is black with the gray cloth interior, it's kind of a gray checker pattern with hints of blue and white in it. I'd like to keep my car stock, so if you're interested in some aftermarket seats, I could help out towards their cost in exchange for your seats, assuming they're in good shape. Joe, feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] if you want to discuss this off the board. Otherwise, I'll probably start looking for some later 240 seats if people are pretty sure they're a direct bolt in.

A couple of things I've done recently that might be old hat to you guys, but the rear window switch on my car needed replacing, and it's still available from Nissan, although it's expensive at about $52 or so. I also just had my top replaced at an upholsterer in Multnomah, and he did a really nice job for right around $1000, including a new top and new window section. It might sound expensive for the do-it-yourselfers out there, but considering that Nissan wants something around $1300 for just the top pieces, it seemed like a pretty good deal and this way I know it was done correctly.

Another question, and this may be answered somewhere else on the site, but my car is having a problem with blue/gray smoke on acceleration from a stop. My garage swears the fuel mixture is correct for the car, but it seems to be running rich...any suggestions?

Sounds like the same interior.

Blue smoke is normally a valve guide issue with this many miles.

Marshall - Not a bad deal on the top. We can get the OEM top for $319 + $35 shipping, installation is around $300-$400.

Compression test will tell you if oil is getting past the rings... Not a very expensive engine to rebuild, fortunately. Hell, someone here might be willing to do it for real cheap.

Carpets from the place I linked are nice.

And yes, S13 is 89-94 240, S14 is 95-98.

Yeah? That would be cool. I did my first auocross earlier this year (in my AE86) and I won the third place trophy. I don;t know how good the S13 convertible would do though, she's a chubby girl.

The blue smoke is OIL, ignore know-nothing suggestions otherwise. Your local shop can test compression in 20 mins and tell you the verdict. As mentioned earlier, your possible problems are among, but not limited to:Valve leakage, piston Rings, oil in fuel system, head gasket failure(most likely as this only occurs under heavy load or acceleration and the internal air pressures change in the engine forcing oil into the combustion chamber, most likely from the crank).

hope that helps

Jarret, I might be interested in the leather seats.

E-mail me at [email protected] and we can discuss it offline.
