I'm ready for an oil change on my Q45 (136,000 miles) that ticks like crazy...told the guys at the shop I wanted BG Quick clean but the BG rep just happened to be there and he insisted I need BG engine purge instead. Does He know what's best for my Infiniti or is he just assuming that it will work better? If I go with this, do I use Mobile1 syn ATF with it? AND they like 10w30...does the brand matter?(I don't use synthetic) thanks for your advice............dcook

I like to use the Quick Clean first as it is for varnish whereas the purge is for sludge............but then one has to evaluate each engine separately by looking at oil, cutting filter open, looking in oil filler port...........ideally you would pull a valve cover off to make an appropriate diagnosis and write the prescription!

Knowing the slope [darkness per 1,000 miles] of how long the oil takes to change color is important.

I like to use the mildest solvents first before purge.

The danger is cleaning the engine too fast! Sludge can clog the pickup in the oil pan or other oil passages.

I'd go with an oil change, half a can of Quick clean, then another oil change. Repeat in a day or two with another oil change with a half can of quick clean followed by another oil change - etc.
