All the pics I've seen (s13 and s14) have coupes matched up with the squarish front with the fixed headlights (this is kouki, right?) and the coupes matched with the pig-nose (chuki? with the flip up headlights?) SO... a is a sil80 a coupe with a round nose (like usdm) and also FB with a square nose?

Ok. Here you go

The S14 doesn't count. Wrong generation

The Silvia has the fixed headlights whereas the 180SX had the pop ups. The silvia was only offered in coupe, whereas the 180 was only offered in hatch form.

the naming comes from a popular conversion in japan where 180 owners would bang up their front ends and and then find some silvia front panels that were in good shape and put them on their cars. Hence the name Sil-80. Silvia front, 180 rear.

That's also the only official name for this conversion.

Now, over here, we have 240s, not 180s. So if someone were to make the conversion here, the community has accepted the term sil-40. Silvia nose, 240 hatchback rear. If you take a coupe and put the silvia panels on it, it's just a JDM silvia conversion

Also, some people have taken to calling a stock 240 coupe a One-Via. 180 nose, Silvia rear end.

The nomenclature always states the style of front panels first in the name, and then the rear end in the second part of the name.

i think nissan actually made a sil-80. i know ive seen it in the middle taillight section on a hatch with a silvia front end. its written kind of in cursive. a true sil-80 has a silvia front end and engine..

WRONG.

Nissan NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER made a sil80.

Kids Heart made a limited production run of 500 new 180SX's and put Silvia front ends on them. Nissan didn't make them. Just like Nissan NEVER made SMZ's, Steve Millen did.

There are tails and 1/4 windows that came with sileighty written on them. They were *not* made by nissan, but as buud said by a 3rd party.

there seem to be quite a few versions of the tale going around... last i heard they were produced by kids heart, but sold through nissan dealers. this is what they looked like (just a kouki 180sx with silvia front):

anyone who can read japanesse, please translate.http://www.teamhinga.50megs.com/custom2.html

heres what a guy said on freshalloy:

"hi. my name is ken and i work for japanese drift magazine called `Battle Magazine`. i see some of you arguing about nissan produced sileighty or not. since i actually talked to some people in japan who made sileighty, i`ll give you the truth about sileighty.used car and custom shop `kids heart` planned and sold THE SILEIGHTY which PRODUCED by nissan. they were 500 limited.

the guy who had 180SX crashed his front end and he found silvia face. so he just used silvia front end to fix his car. maybe this is how sileighty started.

BUT this is true that MR Takayama from `kids heart` did plan and sold the sileighty which produced by nissan.

i hope i made it clear for everyone.

oh and some of you who needs evednece, call Mr takayama at kids heart at 011(int`l #)-81(japanese country #)-0568(kids heart area code)-24-1222

i forgot to write the important fact.the sileighties were produced by NISSAN DEALER. "

basically the sil80 ws produced by a nissan dealer, so not corporate nissan, but still nissan.

hope that helps some.

edit, found some more.

hers the officialy kids heart site:http://www.kidsheart.co.jp/sil.htm

according to Boro240 on Zilvia"here is the Kidsheart site for the sileighty. they give costs, equipment, colors, date of manufactur (it claims may 1 1998), everything.

http://www.kidsheart.co.jp/sil.htm

interesting note is you could order one with a Nismo LSD installed as an option. this confirms the dealer made theory, as it is clearly stated on the site (if you can read japanese). and if you want it in english, babelfish puts it as "until now, as a new model car it did not exist." and "entrusts vehicle production to the NISSAN related dealer and sells as the new model car.'"

the kids heart shop sign:

and the end all arguement (off zilvia, by 808rps13):

"recently found a Sileighty brochure for sale on Yahoo Japan... starting bid was 5000 yen and was up to 6500 when i last checked (don't know what it finally sold for b/c unlike Ebay, once an auction is over on Yahoo JP you need an account to check on that stuff)... anyways, on to the pics of the brochure

haha, oh and "kizzu haato" = kids heart, you can also see that on the 2nd pic on the bottom of the brochure..."

looks pretty real to me, so the end seems to be that it was in fact an official Nissan product.

it's probably the same deal as the convertibles. The verts were made by Nissan, but American Sunroof Corporation handled making the tops, reinforcing the unibody, and final assembly. Kids Heart probably got some 180s straight from the factory as well as Silvia front panels and did the conversion themselves and sold them as limited edition cars. If I remember right, the sil-80s done by kids heart had some limited options not available on a normal production S13. If I could read the tiny print of the brochure, I'd be able to tell you

The Kids Heart Sileighties were kouki 180SX's that had (obviously) kouki taillights and the center panel said SILEIGHTY as well as the quarter windows had SILEIGHTY instead of 180SX.

Because that's the only way to be cool.

The English language has always been inherently cool to the japenese especially if you see japenese teens wearing kooky t-shirts with random english words on them.

there are different character sets in the Japanese language.

katakana is basically phonetic versions of foreign names and words.

then there is kanji which is all japanese and/or stolen/borrowed from chinese.

i've actually heard of non-car japanese people who speak japanese natively have a hard time reading option, etc magazines because every other word is mission, turbine, tension rod, hipari tire, etc.
