For all U.S. Nissan/Infinity fanatics:

Heres an item we can't get here in the US, but offered as a factory Nissan upgrade option in Japan.

It is a True JDM MOMO/Nissan automatic shift knob with Overdrive (on the right side of the knob).

Just got it delivered from Japan and installed in my 97 Q45.Take a look at it and let me know what you think of it.

Very nice mods.

The wheel and shifter will really make the interior pop.

I like the clear lenses better than the blacked out ones.

I think a stainless steel mesh grille, with the larger Infiniti emblem in the center, would really look cool.

Silver paint looks great with chrome and stainess.

Nice shift knob. I’ve always hated the Y33 Qs OEM shift knob. This Momo one is a definite improvement.

The car and interior looks sweet, are you going to put a set of springs on it? A lowered stance would look real nice.:)

Is there a link for the knob? Much improved over the T handle.

Be aware that the JDM headlights have the beam kick-up on the left side and will blind oncoming traffic in the US! Not a good thing.

I also have a set of JDM headlights for my 91, they should be arriving this week, we did a set of JDM Integra lights and did not notice the lights blinding the oncoming traffic, ill post pics once install is complete.

They do look different... but only slightly - maybe more of a break between the high and low beam section. What's the advantage? (I'm not mocking you here, I'd really like to know) The shift knob looks good - reminds me of the one that came from the factory in the G50 :D

Also, I noticed on VIP's page that they have LED turn signal shells for the Y33 mirrors - does anyone know if they make something like that for the G50 series? I've thought of buying mirrors off of an 02+ Q just to see if they'd fit - but it could be an expensive project w/o knowing first.

Did you ask the oncoming drivers? Did you look at the beam pattern? Notice drive on right side of the road beam patterns kick-up about 35° to the right to illuminate road signs, but are flat to the left?

Drive on the left headlights with left hand beam kick-up is a very bad and dangerous idea. I would not want to be laible for their use in any type of accident, even with a DUI driver.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

I told the person who purchased the front clip that it was discussed on this forum, so once we installed and had them aimed we then did a little non scientifc test, we drove towards each other and it was no different then someone coming at you with a nice set of HIDs, nothing out of the ordinary.

When the pic is close up of the light you cant really see the difference, however from a few feet away from the light and you can see the circular area that houses the city light

I'll have to look again, but I've seen a set up to use 2002/2003 style Q45 lights on the Y33.

Will search when I get home and post more info later.

<those with the left side kick up, could be blinding >

I repeat: Look at the beam pattern on a clean, uniform, vertical surface with the car on a level surface 30 feet from said surface.

If a "nice set of HIDs" is an aftermarket conversion or misaimed stock, then that is damning with faint praise. Light, especially glare, in the oncoming driver's eyes is not good.

By the way, what performance gain is accomplished? Do the units not use the same bulbs? The only difference is the beam pattern of the lenses.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

Then the steering wheel and other options - I am so jealous....Hey VIPQ - I see you have the Stillen exhaust and the Stillen air intake. I've got the ehxaust also and have been pondering the air intake. Can you please let me know what difference the air intake made - performance and sound? Thanks, chaz

Thanks guys, for your compliments on my car - it is always a plus to receive encouragement from NICO memebrs who love their cras like I do.

To answer 1qckser's question on suspension:Yes, I will eventually replace my suspension and lower the car a little - If you've been to my cardomain.com page, you can see the suspension kit by Zauber that I am interested in. I am choosing to go with the shock/spring combo instead of the adjustable JIC kit because price aside, I am not a full on tuner and I won't deal with the hassle of adjusting my suspension on a daily basis or on a yearly basis for that matter - I think for me JIC is just an overkill. I thought about picking up some Tokiko blues so many of you guys talk about in this forum (due to the lack of alternative aftermarket kits for the Q) along with some domestic springs but it seems true that the available Tokikos (if I can find a set) for my year Q ('97-98) are no longer continuously manufactured and whatever's left for purchase may have been stored for a lot of years, which probably degrades the quality of the shocks even if I buy them new. The Zauber kit is just coming into market and if quality can be assured I think it will be a better route to go, despite the difficulty in bringing them over to the US. For your info, there are about 4 to 5 different manufacturers who sell direct replacement shocks/struts kits for '97-2001 Q45s that I know of, some are priced around $300USD before tax and shipping - It's just too bad that none of them are willing to ship internationally. My contact in Japan is searching around for the best price for the Zauber kit that I mentioned so I'll let you know when I can get a set over here.

Regarding the concerns over JDM headlights abd the possible danger it may pose:I seriously don't believe the light projections on the JDM headlights pose any more danger to oncoming drivers than a set of HID lights. I have personally compared these headlights against the true HID headlamps and believe me the HID lights are much more of an eyestrain compared to these... of course I am not a technician calculating exact projection angles and stuff, but in my opinion the difference to the US model is very minimal. To answer the other member who asked what the purpose of change is... my purpose of the change in headlamps are pure aesthetics - I am expecting any type of a performance improvement from the jdm headlamps and actuallly there is none. The only noteable difference besides the possible projection angle difference is that these headlights come with the corners already cleared out, without the amber signal section like the US model. IT JUST LOOKS BETTER! My Deilema is which one to install on my SIlver Q - the standard on looks very clean all around and the Touring model headlamps with the blackend out surrounding (like the oes Rex posted in this thread above) looks aggressive and are more difficult to obtain - what do you guys think? Regarding the Stillen Air Intake, I can't really tell you much on the performance improvements since I don't have the means to measure it, and since I put in both the exhaust and air intake at the same time, I can't really tell you if it is any better with it or without it - I just figured that the combination of the two would perform better. One thing that you must deal with is that the fron end noise is louder than with the original air filter system, although it doesn't bother me a bit.

For Chaz98Q45t: I'm sorry Chaz, but I don't have a link for the exact MOMO shiftknob and steering wheel that I have because it is a dealer item and you must special order (I believe it costs $300 USD for the shiftknob and about 1 grand for the steering wheel) But try this link below to see what is available for the Q. It is a Popular Japanese Accessory shop for the three different Q45 models available in Japan along with Popular Lexus models - after getting to the link, click on "VIP" and you will see a 3 page copy of their catalog. There you can see some of the shiftknobs available for your Q45 (Y33) and prices in Japanese Yen.

There is a Japanese Magazine called the "VIPCAR" which is considered the bible of highend sedan upgrades. One of the 2003 issue is dedicated to Q45/Y33s and I will post some pics on the "Member Rides" section of NICO - see what the Japnaese spoiled brats are doing to their Q45s.

Thanks

VA99Q45,

I've purchased the mounting kit off of Ebay. I forgot the brand name but if your search under "Ipaq mount" you will find it easily. It is the one with the built-in speaker and ac adaptor along with a usb port to hook up a nokia phone for hands-free function. It should be one of the more expensive mounts listed on Ebay (I think I paid between $45-$55). I was a bit worried while waiting for the shipment due to the thickness of the Navman jacket, but it turned out to be a very good fit and the one button pda release function of the mount is very convenient. I've installed the mount on the driver vent but the package comes with other mounting options included so you have many installation options. Just make sure that when you connect the ac adaptor to the Ipaq, make sure the Ipaq is turned off - sudden voltage while Ipaq is on can temporarily turn off the unit and you will have to hard reset the unit using your home cradle. Otherwise pick one up - you won't be sorry.
